Chapter 1003: Mention Daddy More Often

Jack accepted her thanks. Roxanne prepared to leave the car, but bumped into Lysa and the boys as she opened the door.

"Mommy!" Archie and Benny, fresh from kindergarten, were delighted to see her. They noticed she wasn't in her own car.

Jack's head appeared behind Roxanne, and he smiled at the boys. "Did you two just get home from kindergarten?"

The children nodded, slightly troubled. Mommy said she was just going to work, but why was she home so late? And why was Mr. Damaris driving her home? They sensed an intimacy between the adults, triggering a silent alarm in their young minds. They felt they needed to help Daddy look after Mommy.

Roxanne instantly understood their apprehension. Exasperated, she said, "I'll take them home first. Please let me know when you reach home, Mr. Damaris."

Jack responded briefly and drove away. Once he was gone, Roxanne explained, "My car wasn't fully repaired, so I couldn't drive it. That's why Mr. Damaris brought me home." She knew she needed to address their concerns immediately.

Unsatisfied, the boys asked, "Were you two working together all day?"

Roxanne nodded. "Mr. Galloway was there, too."

The boys knew Colby and considered him a rival for Lucian's affections. Their worry intensified.

Roxanne felt another wave of exasperation as she saw their expressions. She believed she'd been clear about her relationship with Jack, yet they seemed even more suspicious.

"We saw Mr. Farwell today!" Benny abruptly changed the subject.

Roxanne stiffened at the mention of Lucian's name, remembering Colby's lunchtime comments and Lucian and Aubree together the previous night. The boys, unaware of her turmoil, simply wanted to remind her of Lucian.

Benny looked at her pitifully. "Mr. Farwell doesn't seem to have recovered yet. Mommy, why don't you go help him? Essie is very worried!"

Roxanne forced a smile. "I'm very busy."

The boys persisted, but Roxanne interrupted, "Besides, Mr. Farwell just has a common cold. He'll be better in a week. Tell Essie not to worry too much, okay?"

She patted their heads and went upstairs, wanting to avoid further discussion of Lucian.

Watching her go, Archie and Benny exchanged glances, puzzled. They'd only wanted to mention Lucian, but their mother's reaction was unexpected.

"Archie, did I say something wrong again?" Benny asked, dejected.

Archie patted his brother's shoulder. "No. We just have to mention Daddy to Mommy often."

Benny finally felt reassured.
