Chapter 1007: Slightly Uneasy
โWhereโs Roxanne?โ Lucianโs voice finally broke the silence. Jack chuckled. โMs. Jarvis is busy,โ he said after a pause. โI can relay your message.โ
A grim expression instantly settled on Lucianโs face. Roxanne was with Jack again, and sheโd even let him handle a private call? The purpose of his call made the atmosphere suffocating. Cayden, across from him, felt his heart sink at the scowl.
โThat wonโt be necessary,โ Lucian snapped coldly. โSince sheโs busy, Iโll call her later.โ
Jack raised an eyebrow. โI think youโve misunderstood, Mr. Farwell. Iโm simply working with Ms. Jarvis. If you donโt believe me, I can have her answer the phone.โ He instructed someone nearby, โGet Dr. Jarvisโโ
Lucian interrupted, his tone threatening. โOf course, I believe youโre working with Roxanne. However, I expect some self-awareness. Stay away from her unless itโs work-related. I wonโt hesitate to teach you a lesson if necessary.โ
He hung up before Jack could respond. Jack eyed the darkened screen with amusement. Heโd only been teasing Lucian, whoโd surprisingly lost his cool and threatened him. It seemed Roxanne and Lucian were closer than heโd thought, or perhaps Lucian suspected a closeness between him and Roxanne.
He glanced meaningfully toward the tent from which Roxanneโs voice had emanated. What did Lucian mean to her?
An employee tactfully asked, โMr. Damaris, should I still get Dr. Jarvis?โ
Jackโs attention snapped back to the present. He returned Roxanneโs phone, shaking his head. โNo, itโs alright.โ It had all been an act. The employee responded briefly and returned to her seat. Roxanne, freed from the children, entered the tent, smiling.
โSomeone called, and I answered,โ Jack said truthfully. Roxanne froze. โWho was it?โ
Feigning confusion, Jack replied, โMr. Farwell, but he wouldnโt say why he called.โ Lucian?
Roxanneโs heart leaped. Why was he calling? Wasnโt he dating Aubree? Had he changed his mind and wanted to apologize?
The uncertainty made her uneasy. Lucian had always disliked her interactions with Jack. She couldnโt imagine his reaction to Jack answering her call.
Roxanne clenched her fist, snapping herself out of it. No. Heโd be fine. Lucian was using her. His previous displeasure had been feigned.
She put her thoughts aside, giving Jack a firm nod. โOkay. Iโll take care of it.โ
