Chapter 1008: Roxanne Never Came To See Him
Jack had been watching Roxanne since she returned, noting her earlier anxiety. "I believe it was rather rude of me to answer the call for you. I hope you donโt mind," he said.
Roxanne grinned, seemingly unconcerned. "Itโs okay." Jack pressed further, "I wonder why he called you. I tried asking him, but he refused to tell me."
Roxanne shook her head. "I donโt know either." Jack's brow rose; despite her attempt at concealing her emotions, he saw through her. The change in her expression since entering the tent was too obvious. The phone call had clearly stirred something within her.
Lucian holds a special place in her heart. Interesting.
Meanwhile, at Farwell Group, Cayden watched Lucian fearfully. He'd been unhappy since hanging up the phoneโeven more so since Jack spoke. The air around him felt colder.
From experience, Cayden knew silence was his best bet, but he couldn't help himself. "Mr. Farwell," he ventured cautiously, "how should we handle the medicinal herbs?"
Lucian had been ill for days, instructing Cayden to order herbs from Herbscape Group. Initially, Cayden was unsure of their purpose, only understanding after witnessing Lucian's call. The moment he recovered, Lucian had sought to help Roxanne. Cayden felt a pang of sympathy for Roxanne. Unfortunately, the wrong person answered the call, preventing Lucian's kindness from reaching her.
Cayden expected Lucian to abandon the idea in anger, but to his surprise, Lucian fell silent before saying, "Send them over."
Cayden was stunned by the angry yet resolute tone. Did I hear him right? Isn't he mad? He still wants to send the herbs? He hesitated, unsure if he should comply.
Lucian, noticing Cayden's continued presence, snapped, "What are you waiting for?"
Cayden straightened, "I'll work on it now!" He spun and left.
Lucian stared at his dark phone screen, his gaze mirroring its darkness. Lately, Estella returned home with an expectant look, sometimes staying up late, claiming Roxanne would visit and treat Lucian. He knew Estella had informed Archie and Benny of his illness, and they'd likely told Roxanne. Estella's expectation made it hard for Lucian not to feel the same.
He hadn't expected Roxanne to remain silent for nearly a week. Had he not called her, he wouldn't know she was with Jack. A hint of mockery flickered in his eyes.
To Roxanne, her job always seemed paramount. Or is it because she's working with Jack?
