Chapter 1009: Who Else Can It Be?
Cayden, accompanied by several men, delivered herbs to Roxanne's research institute. Simultaneously, Jack drove Roxanne back. The three met upon exiting their cars. Cayden was surprised to see Roxanne and Jack together.
Jack explained, "We just finished a consultation. Ms. Jarvis's car broke down, so I gave her a ride." His explanation masked the truth. Turning to Roxanne, he asked, "Mr. Lawson, what are you doing here?" Roxanne felt a pang of guilt but composed herself.
Cayden glanced at Jack and announced, "Mr. Farwell asked me to deliver these medicinal herbs. Now that you're back, please check the inventory." He gestured to his staff, who unloaded numerous boxes. Lucian had asked him to send the herbs?
Roxanne was perplexed. She hadn't requested them. Was Lucian trying to make amends? The irony wasn't lost on her. Jack, however, raised an eyebrow at the sight of the herbs, inadvertently remarking, "I suppose this explains Mr. Farwell's earlier call."
Roxanne nodded hesitantly; she couldn't think of another reason. Cayden, annoyed by Roxanne's proximity to Jack, felt it unfair to Lucian. He added, "Ms. Jarvis, everything's here. Inspect them. Let me know if you need more."
Roxanne hesitated to accept Lucian's apparent gift. Cayden explained, "Mr. Farwell learned about the fire at your institute. These herbs are rare, and he had me transfer them from abroad two days ago. They would have arrived sooner, but for transportation delays." He was subtly highlighting Lucian's actions.
A peculiar feeling washed over Roxanne. Shortly after the fire, Lucian had offered help, but Colby had assured her he'd find a solution, prompting her refusal. Yet, Lucian had procured the herbs anyway. Roxanne's mind raced. She had suspected Lucian orchestrated the fire, but if so, why this? And if not him, who?
Jack's voice broke the silence, "Well, I didn't expect Mr. Farwell's support."
Roxanne, unsure how to respond, remained silent. Cayden interjected, "Mr. Farwell's support is for Ms. Jarvis only. Mr. Damaris, I hope you don't misunderstand." He added, more casually, "After all, Mr. Farwell and Ms. Jarvis are well acquainted."
Jack looked at Roxanne, eyebrows raised. "Are Ms. Jarvis and Mr. Farwellโฆ related in any other way? Is there something I should know?"
Roxanne, slightly tense, replied, "We know each other. Our children are classmates." She had no desire to elaborate on her relationship with Lucian.
