Chapter 1033: Happy
“Why can’t we stay together with Essie forever?” Benny asked. “We don’t have to be separated if Daddy and Mommy reconcile.”
Roxanne’s expression tightened at Benny’s direct question. “That’s because…” The children watched her intently.
After a moment, she explained, “Mr. Farwell will get married sooner or later. Essie will have a new family and become attached to her mother.”
Archie and Benny pouted. Their mother was still unaware they knew about their birth. Why couldn’t Daddy’s wife be her?
Roxanne, oblivious to their thoughts, continued, “Mr. Farwell likely wants to provide Essie with a better educational environment. Given her background, she deserves the best education.”
She avoided their gaze. Archie frowned, his voice hoarse. “If Essie transfers, we’ll move to the same school.”
Roxanne’s brow furrowed. Before she could respond, Archie added, “Benny can find out about Essie’s new school, and the money I earn should cover our tuition.”
Archie and Benny possessed different talents, skills Roxanne lacked, so she didn't interfere. Benny’s exceptional hacking skills were well-known to her; she knew he could discover Essie’s new school. However, she was unsure of Archie’s financial resources from his stock trading.
With Benny’s computer skills and Archie’s wealth, they didn't need her help. Unsure of her stance, she asked, “What if I don’t agree?”
A solemn expression crossed Archie’s face. “Why wouldn’t you? Aren’t you worried about Essie?”
Roxanne was speechless. Finally, she stammered, “Mr. Farwell made the decision. Since he didn’t tell you, he didn’t want you to follow. If you enroll in the same school and he moves her again, will you keep following?”
Archie and Benny hung their heads. They longed to tell Roxanne about their true origins, but Roxanne avoided Lucian and forbade them from revealing their age. They feared telling her the truth would alienate her, making seeing Essie even harder.
They remained silent. Roxanne, assuming they had conceded, patted their heads, her heart aching. “Be good. Essie will be happy at her new school.”
Tears welled in her eyes before they could respond. Essie, she knew, wouldn't be happy in a new environment, but it was the only way to comfort Archie and Benny.
