Chapter 1046: Know Your Limits

Frieda relayed Aubree's message to Cory. Aubree initially believed the transaction could be conducted online, given Lucian's men were still surveilling Cory. However, on the day of the exchange, Aubree felt uneasy. She needed to personally verify Cory's deletion of the photos.

"Tell Cory I'll watch him delete the photos myself," Aubree instructed Frieda, pausing her preparations. Frieda stiffened. "But we might be exposed."

Aubree suppressed her displeasure. "If I don't, how can we be sure he's not lying?"

Frieda, though disagreeing, informed Cory. He initially resisted a face-to-face meeting, but ten million proved too tempting. He sent Frieda an address—an unfinished building, his chosen hiding place.

The next morning, Frieda drove Aubree to the location. Cory was waiting. "Hand over the money, and I'll delete the photos," he said, casually waving the camera.

Aubree gritted her teeth. "I'll transfer half. After you delete them, I'll transfer the rest." Cory readily agreed, providing an account for the transfer. Aubree transferred five million; Cory deleted the photos under her watchful eye, then showed her the camera to confirm. Resentfully, Aubree transferred the remaining five million.

"I never thought you'd be like this!" she exclaimed.

Cory raised an eyebrow. "People in our line of work need to cover their tracks. What if a client skips out?"

Aubree growled, "You better have deleted everything, or I'll never let you go!"

"Don't worry. I keep my word, as long as I'm paid," Cory smirked. "And thanks to you, we're in the same boat. I'm not stupid enough to make a reckless move."

He was right. Aubree's cruelty towards Roxanne's children had led Lucian to Cory. They were now equally vulnerable. Evidence against either would implicate the other. This only angered Aubree further. Why cooperate with someone so untrustworthy? Yet, she had no choice.

As Cory left, he cautioned Aubree, "Know your limits. Don't anger Mr. Farwell again, or this might come out. But if you…"
