Chapter 1047: Was She Good?

On Monday, Sonya personally took Estella to her new kindergarten. It wasn't significantly more luxurious than the old one; the only differences were the teachers and classmates. Despite this, Sonya was pleased. "My granddaughter is finally away from Roxanne's children!" she thought. "She'll still make new friends here."

Sonya, preoccupied with Estella's future, completely disregarded the girl's feelings. After handing Estella to the teacher, she left.

The teacher frowned at Estella's tear-streaked face. The kindergarten's children were all from wealthy or influential families, requiring careful handling. Their parents were even more challenging. News of a crying child could cost her her job.

Quickly crouching, the teacher tried to comfort Estella. "Be good, Essie. The other children are waiting. You're such a pretty girl; they'll like you!"

Only then did the teacher notice Estella's delicate features and quiet crying. It didn't frustrate; it evoked sympathy.

Her words went unheard. Estella continued to cry, her head bowed. The teacher, at a loss, led Estella to the classroom and introduced her.

Estella's sweet appearance attracted some children, who tried to comfort her. Ignoring them, she sobbed, wringing her hands.

Anxious, a child reached for her hand, startling Estella, who screamed.

"What's wrong?" the teacher exclaimed, rushing over.

The children were shocked. Their demeanor changed instantly.

"She's so strange!"

They saw Estella as an oddity, ignoring and screaming incessantly. The teacher's concern grew.

This girl... doesn't seem normal.

A headache forming, she sent the other children back to their seats and tried comforting Estella, but to no avail. Estella stopped screaming but remained withdrawn.

Relieved, the teacher thought, As long as she doesn't disrupt the others, it's fine.

Estella participated minimally that day, remaining silent even during breaks. The teacher panicked, unsure what to do.

When Sonya arrived, she asked, "How was Essie? Was she good?"

The teacher pursed her lips. Suspecting a psychiatric issue, she didn't dare mention it to Sonya. Instead, she said vaguely, "I... don't think Essie adapted well. She's quite withdrawn from the other children."

Sonya patted Estella's head. "Didn't I tell you to make friends? Why are you ignoring them?"
