Chapter 1075: No Longer Related
Roxanne, sensing Lucian finally believed her, spoke calmly. "This isn't a confrontation. I'm worried about Essie's well-being. If her autism contributes to this behavior, I hope you'll seek professional help for her."
Lucian's curt reply shocked her. "I don't think Essie did anything wrong."
Roxanne froze. Estella had damaged property, yet Lucian saw no wrongdoing? Doubt gnawed at her. Could Estella's actions stem from Lucian's influence?
Roxanne reasoned, "Even a child should know it's wrong to damage someone's property, especially a car tire. The consequences can be severe, even leading to accidents and injuries! Do you still think Essie did nothing wrong?"
Lucian met her gaze calmly. "It's a simple concept, even a child can understand. Don't tell me Mr. Damaris doesn't grasp this."
Confused, Roxanne frowned. Was Lucian implying Jack had also damaged property?
A shocking realization dawned. She shot Lucian a startled look, then averted her eyes in panic.
Lucian continued calmly, "Regardless of my opinion, Essie considers you her mother. You know this."
Roxanne hung her head. Estella had repeatedly expressed a desire for Roxanne to be her mother. She hadn't confronted this wish, and now felt guilty.
Lucian stepped closer. "Essie believes you treat her well and will become her mother by marrying me. In her eyes, Jack damaged something belonging to me. Isn't that right?"
Roxanne recoiled, conflict surging within her. Lucian's words felt like a tidal wave.
"Please don't overstep boundaries, Mr. Farwell," Roxanne said, forcing calm while digging her nails into her palm. "We are no longer related; that's no justification for Essie's behavior."
Lucian merely snorted. Roxanne's heart leaped; she thought she saw mockery in his eyes. Puzzled, she stepped back, then halted, realizing her reaction.
The irony struck her: she'd sought Lucian's help, yet he'd maneuvered her into a position of seeming fault.
