Chapter 108: What Exactly Does Lucian Mean?
That night, Roxanne rushed from work, just barely making it in time to pick up Archie and Benny from kindergarten. Only the two of them remained at the gates; their teacher was looking after them.
โIโm so sorry Iโm late,โ Roxanne said apologetically, taking her childrenโs hands.
Unexpectedly, Pippa stepped slightly in front of them, offering an uneasy smile. โIโll help watch them a little longer. The head of kindergarten wants to speak with you. Heโs in his office.โ
Roxanne, unsure what was happening, went upstairs and knocked. The head of kindergartenโs expression seemed suspicious.
โPippa said you wanted to talk to me. Whatโs wrong?โ Roxanne asked.
The head of kindergarten smiled stiffly. โThe problem is, Iโve been observing your children for the past two days, and I donโt believe theyโre suitable for our kindergarten. Perhaps you should consider another school.โ
Roxanne's jaw dropped. He wanted to expel Archie and Benny!
She frowned, maintaining her composure. โDid they misbehave? If so, Iโll certainly discipline them at home. Please donโt worry. I promise they wonโtโโ
The head of kindergarten interrupted abruptly. โTheyโve been fine. However, Iโd prefer they not remain here. Of course, Iโll refund your fees.โ
Roxanne felt something was amiss. โItโs not about the money. Since my children are doing well, why are you expelling them? I need a reason I can explain to them.โ
The head of kindergarten frowned. โThere is no other reason.โ He felt a pang of guilt. The children were exceptionally well-behaved, acting like small adults, even helping the teacher with other children. The kindergarten had no reason to expel them. He was acting under orders from a benefactor and couldn't refuse. He avoided eye contact.
Roxanne controlled her anger, attempting to reason with him. โI entrusted my children to your care, and youโre deeply disappointing me. How can you expel them for no reason? I can report this to the Ministry of Education.โ
He felt the guilt gnawing at him but replied, โGo ahead. I wonโt change my mind.โ The Pearson and Farwell families supported the kindergarten; the Ministry likely couldn't touch him.
After scrutinizing him, Roxanneโs tone turned cold. โIf this gets out, other parents will become suspicious. Even if the Ministry does nothing, youโll lose students. That would be a problem, wouldnโt it?โ
The head of kindergarten panicked, looking at her helplessly. โMs. Jarvis, you can easily find another kindergarten. Why make my life difficult?โ
Roxanneโs suspicion grew. Someone was clearly pulling the strings, someone powerful.
She relaxed slightly. โOkay, Iโll stop, but you must tell me who ordered this.โ
The head of kindergarten fell silent, remembering Aubreeโs words.
โIs it the Farwell Group?โ Roxanne guessed.
He hesitated, then slowly nodded. Aubree was soon to be Mrs. Farwell; it wasn't a lie to say it was the Farwell family. He'd assumed Lucian was involved since she kept mentioning him.
Roxanneโs expression darkened. What did Lucian mean by all this?
