Chapter 1083: Spend More Time Together

Sonya scrutinized her son for a while, knowing his infatuation with Roxanne. They had argued frequently about her. Lucian's cold demeanor now surprised Sonya; she suspected an act. A smile touched her face as she realized he was telling the truth. "It's still not too late to change your mind," she said. Lucian merely glanced at her.

"Now that you've come to your senses, continue the engagement with Aubree; it hasn't been canceled. Don't let her down again," Sonya said patiently. "She's made mistakes, but she's sorry and changed. Don't hold a grudge; she's not bad at heart."

Lucian frowned at her attempt to help Aubree. "I promised Essie to only marry someone she likes."

Sonya remained unfazed. "Easy. Let Essie spend more time with Aubree. Aubree is fond of her; you just haven't allowed them to interact."

Lucian hesitated, remembering Aubree's previous interaction with Estella.

"I know you're concerned, but Aubree acted for Essie's good. She regretted it and wanted to make amends, but she didn't get the chance. Aubree has waited years for you, her feelings are genuine, and she won't mistreat Essie out of respect for you."

Lucian couldn't refute this. His engagement with Aubree had lasted six years; she'd never mentioned annulling it. He knew her feelings, but his focus had solely been on Roxanne. Now that that was over, he considered giving Aubree a chance.

He nodded. "I know. I'll give it serious consideration."

Sonya, surprised by his ready acceptance, took a moment to recover. "I'm glad you've seen the light," she said. "But the engagement turning into a wedding depends on Essie." He wouldn't marry a woman Essie disapproved of.

Sonya was relieved that Lucian no longer reacted stubbornly concerning Roxanne. She had confidence in Aubree. "Fine. I believe Aubree will grow on Essie once they spend more time together."

Lucian remained silent, while Sonya's elation bubbled over. She'd initially come to see if Lucian had brought Estella back, never expecting this positive turn of events.

"All right, I'm going now. You should talk to Essie." Before leaving, she reminded him, "Now that you've made up your mind, spend time with Aubree and let her interact with Essie. Don't repeat your past mistake of hurting her."

Lucian nodded curtly.
