Chapter 1090: Talk About the Engagement

โ€œNo!โ€ Estellaโ€™s face flushed with anger at her fatherโ€™s acquiescence to the woman she disliked. Furiously, she flung her fork down, leaped from her chair, and ran upstairs.

Aubree, enraged by the girlโ€™s outburst, maintained her composure. โ€œEssie!โ€ she called, quickly setting down her fork and starting after the girl.

Lucian stopped her. โ€œLet her be.โ€ Aubree feigned concern. โ€œBut Essie, sheโ€”โ€

Lucian remained unmoved. โ€œItโ€™s good for her to calm down alone. I spoiled her too much in the past.โ€

On his way back, Lucian had considered Estellaโ€™s vandalism of Jackโ€™s tire. While he understood her actions, he couldn't ignore them, especially as her behavior was improving. It was time to correct her methods of expressing herself; Roxanneโ€™s situation provided the opportunity.

A surge of glee filled Aubree, though she masked it with a look of guilt. โ€œThis is all my fault. I know Essie dislikes me, and I shouldnโ€™t have pressured her, but I insisted on staying for dinner. Itโ€™s my fault she didnโ€™t eat properly.โ€

Lucian glanced at her. โ€œThis has nothing to do with you. She must face this eventually.โ€ He resumed his meal nonchalantly. โ€œLetโ€™s continue eating.โ€

A hint of delight flickered in Aubreeโ€™s eyes, and she sat down.

After dinner, Aubree suggested, with feigned concern, checking on Estella. Unsurprisingly, Lucian refused, stating Estella needed time to calm down. Aubree didn't press the issue. โ€œIโ€™ll go home then. Donโ€™t worry about me; focus on your work. Iโ€™ll visit Essie often.โ€

Lucian nodded. โ€œYou know Essie. If you want her acceptance, be patient.โ€

Aubree was surprised by his advice.

โ€œI will. Even if Essie ignores me, Iโ€™ll still care for her!โ€

Lucian said nothing more, dismissing her with a word to Catalina.

Leaving the Farwell residence, Aubree could no longer conceal her joy.

โ€œAubree, what took you so long?โ€ Gina asked upon her return to the Pearson residence. โ€œDinnerโ€™s cold. Iโ€™ll have someone reheat it. Wash up and come down.โ€

Aubree smiled. โ€œIโ€™ve already eaten.โ€

Gina looked confused. โ€œWhere?โ€

The memory of dinner with Lucian brought a satisfied smile to Aubreeโ€™s lips. โ€œWith Lucian.โ€

Gina sat up straight, a nervous expression on her face. โ€œWhat did Lucian say? Did he talk about the engagement?โ€

Since Roxanneโ€™s return, Lucian hadnโ€™t contacted Aubree directly. Aubree had tried, only to hear him reiterate his desire to break the engagement. Gina assumed that's what he'd discussed again. However, her daughterโ€™s expression ignited a spark of hope. โ€œOr has he decided to keep the engagement?โ€

Aubree nodded, relaying Lucianโ€™s words.

After listening, Gina nodded emphatically. โ€œThatโ€™s unimportant. None of that matters as long as he ends things with Roxanne and keeps his engagement to youโ€ฆโ€
