Chapter 1097

Jonathan was astonished. โ€œSheโ€™s all right after such a short time? Does that mean sheโ€™s doing much better now?โ€

โ€œShe spent a day at Roxanneโ€™s,โ€ Lucian replied nonchalantly.

Jonathan understood Lucianโ€™s implication. Estellaโ€™s improved mood wasnโ€™t due to her condition improving; it was because sheโ€™d seen Roxanne. However, he found Lucianโ€™s mention of Roxanne peculiar. Was he truly planning to end things with her?

Jonathanโ€™s confusion was evident. Lucian noticed and said, โ€œI spoke to her. We canโ€™t continue our relationship, so weโ€™ve decided to part waysโ€”to become strangers.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re giving up just like that?โ€ Jonathan was incredulous.

Lucian frowned. โ€œWhat do you think?โ€

Jonathan knew Lucian wouldn't stoop to begging Roxanne. He drew his brows together. โ€œWhat about Essie? Dr. Jarvis is her mother, and the girl adores her.โ€

The mention of Estella caused a flicker in Lucianโ€™s eyes. โ€œIโ€™ve discussed this with Aubree. Sheโ€™ll treat Essie well, and in time, Essie will accept her.โ€

Jonathan found the idea of Essie accepting Aubree unbelievable. Heโ€™d been told by Frieda, with typical arrogance, about Lucianโ€™s plans to marry Aubree. Heโ€™d initially dismissed it as unbelievable, having witnessed Lucianโ€™s ardent courtship of Roxanne. Even if Lucian had ended things with Roxanne, Jonathan didn't understand his choice of Aubree. Estellaโ€™s dislike of Aubree over the past six years had been undeniable. How could Lucian marry a woman Essie disliked and make her Essieโ€™s stepmother? Even with Lucian's confirmation, it felt like a dream.

โ€œEssie hasnโ€™t accepted Aubree in six years. Do you really think sheโ€™ll suddenly change her mind?โ€

Lucian remained unfazed. โ€œWe have to try.โ€

โ€œWhat happened between you and Dr. Jarvis? You donโ€™t give up easily!โ€

Silence followed. Lucian lowered his gaze and took a drink.

Jonathan finished his wine, sighing. โ€œIf Iโ€™d known youโ€™d give up so easily, I wouldnโ€™t have helped you. You can avoid Dr. Jarvis, but the Queen family still has to interact with her. How am I supposed to face her now? And my grandfather asked me to look after Dr. Jarvis. What do I tell him?โ€ He watched Lucian intently, hoping for a change of heart. But Lucian's expression remained unchanged, as if he hadnโ€™t heard a word.
