Chapter 1100
In the end, Jonathan could only sigh as he watched Lucian open another bottle. He knew Lucian's despondency stemmed from their earlier conversation. Resigned, Jonathan decided to join him, sacrificing his liver in the process.
He began drinking alongside Lucian, soon finding himself equally gloomy. Before they knew it, the wine was gone. Lucian, clutching his head, pulled out his phone. He hadn't driven and needed a ride. He'd had too much to drink; almost instinctively, his finger hovered over Roxanne's name. His frown deepened as he hesitated. Just as he was about to contact her, Jonathan's slurred voice interrupted, "Lucian, I... I can't drink anymore!"
Jonathan was thoroughly intoxicated, mumbling incoherently while holding an empty glass. Lucian, however, still possessed some clarity. Jonathan's words snapped him back to reality. He looked at Roxanne's name, then, after a moment's hesitation, scrolled past it. He'd decided to end things; he shouldn't disturb her.
Finally, his gaze settled on Aubree's name. He tapped it.
Aubree was dining with Frieda, venting her anger about leaving the Farwell residence. As she reached the peak of her rant, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she stopped abruptly.
"What's the matter? Who is it?" Frieda asked.
Aubree answered, "Lucian, it's late. Is something the matter?" She assumed he'd returned to the manor and was calling after discovering her earlier visit. Instead, his drunken voice said, "Are you free? I drank a little. If it's convenient, come pick me up."
Aubree's eyes lit up, her irritation vanishing. "Where are you? I'll be right there!"
He gave her the club's name and room number.
"I'm on my way!"
Her eagerness made Lucian press his lips together. "You don't need to rush."
After the call, Frieda asked, "Who was it? Lucian?" She knew no one else could shift Aubree's mood so rapidly.
Aubree smiled. "Let's wrap up. Lucian's drunk and asked me to pick him up."
Frieda beamed. "People usually call their girlfriends after getting drunk. It looks like Lucian's had a change of heart. Congratulations, Aubree."
Aubree, smiling broadly, gathered her bag.
Suddenly, Frieda remembered something. "Lucian's with my brother. I'll come with you and pick him up too."
Aubree readily agreed, eager to leave Jonathan's company.
