Chapter 1101: What Is Going On
When the two women arrived at the club, Jonathan had already somewhat sobered. He tensed at the sight of Aubree entering with his sister. He vaguely recalled Lucian making a call in his drunken stupor, believing it was a regretful call to Roxanne, fueled by his inebriation. Even if not to Roxanne, Lucian should have called Cayden. Instead, he called Aubree. So, all that earlier conversation was wasted breath! Lucian had truly given up on Roxanne.
โLucian, how do you feel?โ Aubree immediately went to Lucianโs side, studying him with concern. He had drunk more than Jonathan and was nearly incapacitated. His only response to her voice was a slight nod and a furrowed brow.
โAubree, you should take Lucian back first. Leave my brother to me,โ Frieda suggested. Aubree readily agreed, though she struggled to help Lucian stand. Just as she was about to ask a server for help, Cayden appeared.
โMs. Pearson, where is Mr. Farwell? He called and asked me to send you both home.โ Lucian had contacted Cayden after calling Aubree. Even drunk, he couldn't entirely let his guard down around her.
Aubreeโs eyes narrowed at the sight of Cayden. Shifting to make way, she said, โHeโs inside. Help him out.โ Cayden nodded, quickly bringing Lucian to the car, then assisting Frieda with Jonathan to her vehicle.
Before leaving, Cayden worriedly asked, โMs. Queen, are you sure youโre alright alone?โ Frieda waved dismissively. โDonโt worry. Jonathanโs not troublesome when drunk; heโll just sleep. Go take care of Lucian.โ
Cayden then returned to Aubreeโs car, where she sat beside the unconscious Lucian. He started the car and drove toward the Farwell residence. En route, Aubree glanced at Lucian. Despite their six-year engagement, this was the first time sheโd sat beside him like this; previously, heโd avoided her.
As Aubree savored this unexpected closeness, the car lurched. Lucian, already awkwardly positioned, shifted even closer. A glint appeared in Aubreeโs eyes as she noted their proximity. She glanced at Cayden; seeing he wasnโt looking back, she subtly tugged Lucian closer. Now, he leaned against her. Aubree felt both excited and nervous.
Cayden stopped at a red light and instinctively glanced in the rearview mirror. He gasped, seeing Lucian intimately leaning against Aubree. What's going on? Heโd already sensed something amiss seeing Aubree at the club entrance. He recalled Mr. Farwellโs dislike for Aubree and his pursuit of Roxanne. Why this sudden closeness? Why did he ask Aubree to take him home when drunk?
Seemingly sensing his gaze, Aubree looked at Cayden. He shuddered and quickly looked away.
