Chapter 1109: No Trouble
Unlike Pippa's disdain, Pamela treated Aubree respectfully. Aubree, in turn, discarded her haughty demeanor, nodding courteously at Pamela while gently guiding Estella toward her teacher. Pamela, remembering the child's past classroom performance, felt a twinge of worry. While honored to have the Farwell heiress in her class, she knew the consequences of any mishap.
Aubree seemed to sense Pamela's apprehension and smiled reassuringly. "Essie's condition is unusual; she's sensitive to environmental changes. Please take care of her, Ms. Yaxley. I'll treat you to dinner soon." She then addressed Estella: "Say hello to your teacher, Essie."
This was a gamble for Aubree. Earlier, in the car, Estella had only nodded or shaken her head. Aubree wasn't sure the child would comply. The thought of Estella defying her in public filled Aubree with immediate regret. Yet, a second later, Estella's voice rang out, "Hello, Ms. Yaxley." She even bowed politely.
Aubree and Pamela were momentarily stunned before regaining their composure. "It seems you've connected with Essie. She's made remarkable progress," Pamela complimented, smiling.
Aubree was relieved. "Essie is a good child; she just needs time to adjust."
Pamela nodded enthusiastically. "Don't worry, I'll ensure Essie adjusts as quickly as possible."
Aubree smiled. "I trust Essie is in good hands." She reached out to stroke Estella's hair, assuming the child had warmed up to her. Unexpectedly, her hand missed. Aubree's expression faltered, but quickly recovering, she smiled and said, "Be good in school, Essie. Listen to Ms. Yaxley. Do you understand?"
Estella nodded reluctantly. Aubree nodded at Pamela once more before leaving. Their conversation had been lengthy, leaving only Pamela and Estella at the kindergarten entrance. Leading Estella by the hand, Pamela felt a sense of foreboding.
Desiring Lucian's approval, Aubree called him immediately after leaving. Lucian, seated in a car with Cayden driving, was en route to Farwell Group. Seeing Aubree's call, he frowned, fearing something had happened to Estella. He answered, hearing her cheerful tone.
"I dropped Essie off, Lucian. Ms. Yaxley took her. You don't need to worry."
Lucian breathed a sigh of relief. "All right, thank you for the trouble," he replied softly.
Aubree's voice softened, tinged with embarrassment. "No trouble at all. It's my duty. In the future... I'll continue to pick up and drop off Essie."
Their unspoken words hung in the silence between them.
