Chapter 1130
Hearing that, Roxanne instinctively furrowed her brows, her tone turning indifferent. โOh, no, no. Mr. Damaris is only a business partner. He provided the medicinal herbs to keep the research on schedule.โ
Colbyโs words reminded Roxanne of her sons, sparking unsettling thoughts. How would they believe her if even Colby mistook her relationship with Jack? She couldn't understand why others would misinterpret it.
Colby flashed an unfazed smile. โNo need to rush your denial, Dr. Jarvis. Itโs natural for Mr. Damaris to be impressed by someone as skilled as you.โ Then, as if concerned she was unaware, he beamed. โIโm afraid you donโt know, but everyone at the institute is talking about your relationship with Mr. Damaris.โ
Roxanne stiffened. โWhat are you talking about?โ
Colby shrugged. โHeโs always by your side during his visits, and heโs so considerate. Itโs hard not to assume youโre romantically involved.โ
Roxanne opened her mouth, realizing she couldn't refute it. โDr. Galloway, if you hear anyone talking about this, please explain that Mr. Damaris and I are only friends. Nothing more.โ
Colby inclined his head. โI will.โ He added, โStill, this wonโt die down easily. If you donโt want others to misunderstand, itโs best to keep your distance from him.โ
Roxanne nodded. โThank you for the reminder. I will.โ
Colby said nothing more, leading his men to inventory the medicine. Unbeknownst to Roxanne, a peculiar look flashed across his eyes.
Jack visited the institute almost daily, spending hours with Roxanne discussing research progress. The employees had indeed been talking, but Colbyโs words stemmed from concern about their relationship. Only after Roxanneโs denial did he feel relieved.
Roxanne, however, felt increasingly frustrated. That afternoon, Jack arrived as usual. โHowโs the research? Was the morning shipment of herbs sufficient? If not, I can send more,โ he said in front of other researchers.
Roxanne felt, perhaps mistakenly, that everyone was watching them. Looking around, however, she only saw them working diligently. She chided herself; her anxiety stemmed from guilt over Colbyโs words. She mused, Iโm always with Colby too, so why is it only Jack?
The thought of her sons returned, and Roxanne pressed her lips together.
โDr. Jarvis?โ Jack asked, noticing her expression. โWhat are you thinking about?โ
Roxanne smiled quickly. โNothing.โ
โThese medicinal herbsโฆโ Jack began, but Roxanne interrupted. โWhy donโt we talk outside? Letโs not disturb everyone.โ
