Chapter 117: What Is There to Explain?

Roxanne was terrified. Her body trembled as she instinctively burrowed into his embrace. Feeling her tremble, Lucian's heart softened. "Why did you come in here if you're so scared?" he asked.

Stunned, she couldn't react.

He sighed. "I'll take you out."

Slowly, Roxanne's senses returned. The voice was familiar, the scent sending a chill down her spine. Lucian? No. Why was he here? Confused, she looked up into his worried eyes.

Their eyes met, and she froze. Fear vanished, replaced by an expressionless mask as she struggled to free herself.

Lucian felt her resistance and immediately grew cold, allowing her to pull away.

"Why are you here?" she asked warily.

After a moment, Lucian replied indifferently, "To find you."

Roxanne furrowed her brows. "I made it clear enough. Since you went to so much trouble, you must want something, right?" She'd blocked him on all platforms after leaving the kindergarten that morning. Now, her efforts were wasted. Besides needing her help, she couldn't imagine why else he'd seek her out.

His eyes darkened. He'd planned to be direct, but her question struck him. If he admitted he needed her help, she'd likely ridicule him.

After a pause, he tried a different approach. "I haven't properly explained Archie and Benny's expulsion. I hope you'll calm down and listen."

Roxanne was convinced he was responsible. His words felt ironic. Explain? What was there to explain? Hadn't he had enough fun these past few days?

A cold glint flashed in her eyes. Her tone was distant. "Mr. Farwell, you're powerful. Do as you please. There's no need for explanations. I don't want to hear them."

He frowned. "I always act with a clear conscience. This wasn't me. I was wrongly blamed. I admit I spoke to the kindergarten head about expelling Archie and Benny after learning they attended the same school as Essie. But after her outburst that day, I promised I wouldn't, considering my daughter's feelings. Aubree saw the boys that morning while taking Essie to school. She told the head to expel them. I only found out when you came looking for me."

Aubree was behind it all. Roxanne felt even more ridiculed. "So? What makes you different? You made the initial request. When Aubree mentioned it again, do you think the headmaster wouldn't consider your prior statement? Ultimately, this is all your fault!"

Lucian was frustrated by her linking him and Aubree. "She's her own person. Why lump us together? I had no reason to interfere with Archie and Benny's lives. I already warned the kindergarten head last night. The boys can return anytime."
