Chapter 1170
Lucian arrived at the hospital just as the director approached. "Mr. Farwell," the director greeted, but Lucian's anger remained etched on his face. "How is she?"
"She's in the emergency room. The doctors you hired are already inside," the director replied with a hesitant smile, trailing behind Lucian.
Lucian stopped outside the emergency room, where medical staff gathered. The room's sign glowed, yet the situation inside remained unknown. "What did the specialists say when the ambulance arrived?" Lucian asked quietly.
The director nervously glanced at Lucian before frowning. "Speak!" Lucian commanded, his gaze sharp.
Shakily, the director explained, "The specialists said… Ms. Jarvis is in critical condition. They'll do everything they can, but there's no guarantee of success…"
Roxanne's previous accomplishments had made her a prominent figure in Horington's medical field. The director recognized her immediately. After explaining the situation, he quickly added, "Please don't worry. We've equipped the emergency room with state-of-the-art technology. As long as the specialists do their best, everything will be alright."
Lucian frowned. Even knowing Roxanne's condition from Jack, hearing the specialists' uncertainty sent a jolt through him.
"Mr. Farwell, Ms. Jarvis is a good person. Nothing will happen to her," the director offered, attempting reassurance.
Lucian found this irritating. "You can leave now. I'll wait here alone."
The director nodded silently, adding, "Please let me know if you need anything," before departing with the medical staff.
Silence filled the corridor. Lucian stared at the illuminated sign, feeling unusually frustrated. Since returning, Roxanne had dedicated herself to research. He wondered if she'd ever imagined a day where her passion would bring her so close to death.
If she survived… Lucian's eyes darkened. If she survived and they reconciled, he wouldn't let her overwork herself again. But these were just hopes.
He grimaced, tearing his gaze from the sign and sitting on a bench, focusing instead on the emergency room door. Ten minutes had passed since her admission. He could wait. Maybe the specialists had found a way to save her, he reassured himself.
Yet, frustration surged again. What's wrong with me? She may not return, so why this anxiety? Even if things go wrong…
Lucian gritted his teeth. So what if things go wrong? I've secured the best doctors and equipment. I've done everything I could. Why am I sitting here? He started to rise, but the closed doors held him captive, his legs feeling heavy as lead.
