Chapter 1175

An inexplicable unease washed over Estella. Her eyes welled with tears. "No, I want you, Daddy!"

Lucian, perturbed, massaged his temples. "Essie," he said patiently, "I'll be home very soon." Unexpectedly, Estella demanded, "I want Ms. Jarvis!" Lucian's heart sank. Why now, of all days, after she'd waited for Roxanne for so long?

Aubree quickly interjected, "Be good, Essie. Daddy's busy. I'll take good care of you." She feared Estella would burst into tears and she wouldn't be able to explain to Lucian. "Go, Lucian. Don't worry, I'll get Essie home safely!"

Lucian heard the agitation in Estella's voice, but Roxanne's situation demanded his immediate attention. He remained silent for a few seconds before tersely acquiescing.

After hanging up, Aubree glanced in the rearview mirror. Phew! Estella was only tearing up, not crying. Lucian likely noticed nothing amiss.

"Essie, Ms. Jarvis has her own children. You can't cling to her. Besides, she often fights with your daddy. You should be siding with your daddy." Aubree tried to dissuade Estella from Roxanne.

Estella, already in a bad mood, snorted angrily at Aubree's disparaging remarks about Roxanne. Arms crossed, she remained silent. Aubree gritted her teeth, suppressing her anger.

At the hospital, it was seven o'clock. Four or five hours had passed since Roxanne was taken to the emergency room. Lucian, after standing for a long time, paced restlessly in front of the doors. What was taking so long?

"Mr. Farwell, you haven't eaten," Zayne Yaleman, the hospital director, said, trying to ingratiate himself. "Let's grab a bite. I'll have someone watch here."

Lucian whirled around, his eyes blazing. "Buzz off!"

Zayne, shuddering, hastily agreed and left. Lucian stared intently at the emergency room doors.

Then, the red light above the doors went out. The doors opened, and four or five doctors and nurses emerged. Lucian frowned. Roxanne wasn't among them.

"Where is she?" he demanded, his voice tight.

The lead specialist approached. "Calm down, Mr. Farwell. Dr. Jarvis' condition is stable for now."

Ignoring him, Lucian pressed, "Where is she?"

Seeing his mounting anger, the specialists exchanged glances. A moment of silence followed. While the patient had been saved, the situation remained critical.
