When Archie looked in the direction Benny was staring, he saw the little girl they had met the day before. He furrowed his brows.
Meanwhile, Estella watched them, clapping her hands with the other children. When she realized Archie and Benny were looking at her, a hint of unspoken excitement flickered in her bright eyes. She never expected to see them here. Although she had met them only once, she couldn't understand why she liked them so much.
However, Archie and Benny looked away as she continued to watch them.
"Okay, class, please take your seats. There are two empty seats over there; I'll put you two together," their teacher said, pointing to the empty seats next to Estella.
Archie and Benny were momentarily stunned, but they nodded obediently and walked over to sit down without speaking.
Estella's eyes lit up as the boys approached, but she was soon disappointed. They were sitting right next to her, but they didn't greet her. It was as if they didn't recognize her.
Dejected, Estella looked down, fiddling with her fingers.
In reality, the boys were discreetly observing her. Sensing her disappointment, they felt guilty.
Clenching his fists, Archie said to his brother, "Daddy abandoned us and had another child with another woman. He even bullied Mommy! We mustn't talk to her because she's his child with another woman! Otherwise, we'll hurt Mommy's feelings!"
Benny nodded solemnly. "Yeah, we should ignore her."
So, the brothers sat upright throughout the class, avoiding Estella's gaze. Sensing their aloofness, Estella didn't look at them again.
After class, several girls gathered around the boys, admiring their good looks and sharing their toys. Benny, outgoing as ever, laughed and played with them. Archie, though polite and mature for his age, was also friendly.
Seeing their bright smiles, Estella found the courage to approach them. However, the other children surrounded the brothers, pushing her aside.
One girl even sneered, "Little Mute, get lost! You can't even talk, so why are you here? Don't ruin our fun!"
Taken aback, Estella lost her balance and fell backward. The other girls dodged her, offering no help. She tried to grab the desk for support but missed, hitting her hand on the desk.
"Ouch!" Tears welled up in her eyes as she slumped to the floor. The other children watched without helping, some giggling.
Estella had been quiet and lonely in class because she was mute and had few friends. However, she was sweet and kind. While the girls disliked her, most of the boys liked her, treating her well. They even behaved themselves around her, much to the girls' envy.
Tammy, the girl who had shoved her, frequently bullied her.
