Chapter 1210

Meanwhile, Jonathan led the three children from the hospital. Familiar with the area from frequent hospital inspections, he took them to a nearby fast-food restaurant. They reached the entrance of the adjacent cafรฉ when they encountered three people exiting.

Panic flickered across Frieda and Aubree's faces. They instinctively glanced at Cory, unsure if Jonathan knew him. The thought that Jonathan might be involved in Cory's investigation made them anxious about concealing the truth. However, Cory remained calm. He walked past Aubree and Frieda without acknowledging them, acting as if they were strangers. His nonchalance prevented Jonathan from dwelling on it; he merely frowned at the two women.

"Jonathan."

"Hi."

Guilt-ridden, they offered brief greetings.

Jonathan cocked his head. "What a coincidence! I wondered why you hadn't appeared sooner, Frieda. I see you've met a friend." He gave his sister a significant look.

Frieda responded stiffly, "I didn't know when you and Lucian would finish, so I had coffee while waiting. I didn't expect to see Aubree."

Jonathan turned to Aubree. "It's late. What are you doing here?"

Despite his questioning tone, she replied affably, attempting to ease his suspicion. "I came to check on Lucian at the hospital. Since he wouldn't let me stay upstairs, I had coffee here, ready to return if needed."

Despite her efforts, suspicion flickered in Jonathan's eyes. The coincidence of Frieda and Aubree being there seemed excessive, although Roxanne's poisoning clearly wasn't their doing. He considered further questions, but Estella tugged his clothes.

"I'm hungry." The little girl looked at him pitifully.

Her gaze reminded Jonathan of his duty. He apologized to the children. "Sorry, I almost forgot about you all."

He then bid Frieda and Aubree farewell, taking the children into the fast-food restaurant.

Aubree glared at their retreating figures, resentment filling her eyes. Frieda had previously told her Jonathan supported Roxanne and Lucian's relationship, even helping Lucian woo Roxanne. But Aubree raged, "I didn't expect Jonathan to suspect me because of that bitch! We grew up together! What's so special about her?"

Jealousy surged, fueling a renewed impulse to harm Roxanne. Frieda, sensing her emotional shift, quickly said, "Don't mind my brother, Aubree. That's just how he is. When you marry into the Farwell family, make him regret it."

Checking her watch, she added, "We messaged Mr. Damaris over half an hour ago. Even with the distance, he should arrive soon."
