Chapter 1220

As Roxanne pondered Lucian's instructions to the children, the three of them approached to say goodbye.

โ€œMommy, since youโ€™re feeling better, weโ€™ll head home. Rest well! Weโ€™ll be waiting for you!โ€ Benny said, smiling brightly.

His cheerful demeanor only deepened Roxanneโ€™s confusion. During her previous illnesses, the children had insisted on staying by her side. Their eagerness to leave without protest was perplexing.

Benny then asked endearingly, โ€œMommy, youโ€™ll let Essie come with us, right? Sheโ€™ll be scared alone!โ€

Roxanne, snapping back to the present, glanced instinctively at Lucian and nodded hesitantly. โ€œTake good care of her.โ€ The previous night's scare had left Estella frightened; it was best she be with Archie and Benny.

The boys nodded fervently. โ€œWeโ€™ll head back then!โ€ They ran from the ward, waving goodbye. Their smiles broadened as they turned, knowing their plan had worked: Daddy had instructed them to give their parents some privacy. Though worried about Roxanne, they trusted Lucian to care for her.

Roxanneโ€™s brows furrowed as she watched them go, a sudden urge to call them back overwhelming her. She felt unprepared to face Lucian alone. But before she could react, Lucian's voice cut through the silence. "I'll have Cayden escort them back. He'll stay and look after them."

His clear statement left Roxanne no choice but to nod in agreement. "I'll see them off," Lucian said, giving her an unreadable look before leaving the ward.

Alone, Roxanne realized Lucian had left to give her time to compose herself, a gesture that spoke volumes about his care for her. Turning to the window, she sought to calm her racing thoughts. She couldn't decipher Lucian's intentions, but recent events suggested his kindness extended beyond mere business rivalry with Jack. Perhaps, she mused, his actions held genuine sincerity. Anyone would be moved by his attentive care throughout the night, and Roxanne was no exception.

Yet, unanswered questions remained. Instead of overthinking her relationship with Lucian, Roxanne decided to let things unfold naturally. She finally felt composed.

As if sensing her shift in perspective, or perhaps through some unspoken connection, Roxanne heard a noise at the door just as she felt ready to face Lucian. Seconds later, he entered.

โ€œHave they left?โ€ Roxanne's initial surprise quickly melted into a smile.

Lucian's gaze darkened at her expression. He nodded. โ€œCayden will take good care of them. You donโ€™t need to worry.โ€

Roxanne grinned. โ€œI know. Thank you. Not only did you take care of me last night, but you also looked after them too.โ€ Her tone was relaxed, devoid of its previous stiffness.

Lucianโ€™s eyes mirrored a storm of emotions as he noted the change, but he quickly masked them.
