Chapter 1227
The rain had stopped by the time they reached the parking lot. Lucian's custom-made jacket, which had shielded them from the downpour, was soaked. Even his arms were drenched. Standing beside the car, Roxanne watched impassively as he opened the door and placed the jacket on the back seat. After a moment's hesitation, she sat in the passenger seat.
Lucian soon joined her, and they drove toward her house. The silence in the car grew uneasy. "I wonder what they're doing now," Roxanne murmured, searching for a topic.
Lucian glanced at her reflection in the rearview mirror. "Cayden will take good care of them. You can call him if you're worried."
Roxanne smiled. "It's okay. I believe Cayden will take good care of them."
As they discussed the children, Roxanne couldn't help but reflect on their hasty departure that morning. She wondered what they'd been thinking and resolved to find out when they got home.
Meanwhile, at the mansion, Cayden had bought breakfast for the children. After eating, the three rushed upstairs, hiding in Archie and Benny's room to whisper amongst themselves.
"I wonder how Mommy's feeling now," Benny worriedly frowned.
Archie patted his brother's shoulder. "Didn't Mommy say she's okay? Besides, Daddy's with her, so she'll be fine."
Estella nodded vigorously. "Daddy will take good care ofโ" She faltered, looking at Archie and Benny timidly. They offered encouraging looks.
Finally, Estella declared, "Daddy will take good care of Mommy! Mommy's incredibly skilled in medicine, so I'm sure she'll be fine!" She balled her fists for emphasis.
"The most important thing is for Daddy and Mommy to get back together," Archie reasoned. "I think after yesterday, Mommy won't avoid Daddy and Essie anymore!"
Smiles bloomed on their faces, Estella's particularly radiant. Seeing this, Benny asked, "Essie, wouldn't Mommy be sad if she knew how much you adore her?"
Estella's smile faded, and her demeanor drooped. Benny felt guilty, glancing at Archie, worried he'd upset her. Archie shared his concern and was about to change the subject when Estella hesitantly said, "I don't have a mommy."
Archie and Benny were stunned into silence. Benny frowned, about to question her further, when a knock sounded at the door.
The children quickly composed themselves and opened it. Cayden stood there, smiling. "Let's go downstairs and see who's here," he said.
After exchanging a suspicious glance, the children scampered downstairs. Seeing who entered, they were initially stunned, then erupted into wide smiles.
"Mommy!" The three children rushed toward Roxanne.
Roxanne chuckled, embracing all three and patting their heads.
