Chapter 1230
When Lucian recalled the scene at the research institute, a cold look hardened his eyes. โBack then, when youโd just fallen into a coma after being poisoned, Jack refused to send you to the hospital. Tell me, what do you think his intentions were?โ
Roxanne hesitated, her thoughts wavering.
He continued coldly, โDo you think traditional medicine could have saved you?โ
Without hesitation, she shook her head. โI may have been unconscious, but I knew how dire the situation was. Even if it weren't me, I wouldn't have risked treating myself with acupuncture. The poison gas had invaded my brain; the emergency room was the only viable option. Acupuncture might have helped, but the risk of failure was too great.โ
He gazed intently at her, encouraging her to continue. โTraditional medicine has proven effective for chronic diseases over many years. But my situation demanded immediate emergency care.โ
โWhat would have happened if you hadnโt received treatment in time?โ Lucian inquired.
Roxanne considered this seriously. โIf it wasn't too severe, I would have been in a vegetative state. Otherwise, I would have died. Even if Iโd been lucky enough to wake up, I likely would have been mentally disabled.โ
She expressed her gratitude. โIf not for your help, Mr. Farwell, one of those three scenarios would have been my fate. Thank you.โ
Ignoring her thanks, he remained focused on Jack. โDo you think Jack was unaware of those possibilities?โ
Roxanne hesitated, unsure how to answer. Jack certainly knew the risks, but admitting that would make Lucian more suspicious.
Lucian noted her hesitation, his gaze cold. โYou still donโt think heโs suspicious?โ
Frowning, she speculated, โMaybe... Mr. Damaris has his reasons. Perhaps he has experience using acupuncture to treat poisonings like mine. But that raises another question: why would he possess such specialized knowledge? And if he didn't, why did he refuse to send me to the hospital?โ She maintained a calm exterior despite the turmoil in her mind.
Lucian asked, โDo you know what Jack was doing when I went to him?โ
Roxanne tensed, fearing heโd uncovered evidence. If so, her longstanding impression of Jack might need revising.
Lucianโs eyes narrowed as he recalled Jack's actions. โHe was preparing to remove your clothes! Heโs an animal, taking advantage of you, and yet you still trust him.โ
Roxanne was stunned. Sheโd expected concrete evidence, not this. She was accustomed to removing patientsโ clothes during acupuncture treatments, making Lucian's reaction baffling. Was he truly jealous, or something else?
