Chapter 1229

Estella hugged Roxanne tightly, refusing to let go. Roxanne explained resignedly, "Your daddy and I haven't eaten yet. We'll keep you company after our meals, all right?"

The girl finally released Roxanne and stared intently at her. Roxanne smiled, patted her head, and turned to Lucian. "Come on in, Mr. Farwell. I'll prepare some food."

Lucian's eyes darkened before he entered the living room. It's been a long time since she invited me. This feels pretty good.

The children were relieved to see their relationship improve after Roxanne left the hospital. Lucian sat on the couch, watching them play. In the kitchen, Roxanne nonchalantly prepared food. The mansion's atmosphere became surprisingly heartwarming.

Soon, Roxanne emerged with two sandwiches and a glass of hot milk, placing them before Lucian. "It's nearly time for lunch, so just eat these first."

He nodded. Just as she was about to sit beside him, her phone rang on the coffee table. They both saw Jack's name on the screen. Lucian frowned, but Roxanne wanted to answer; she knew Jack was worried. As she reached for the phone, Lucian snatched it away.

Roxanne's eyebrows furrowed in slight panic. "I want to tell Mr. Damaris I'm safe."

He waited for the ringing to stop, then expressionlessly turned off her phone and tossed it aside. She felt resigned. In the past, she would have argued, but she refrained; he had saved her life and cared for her all night.

Roxanne silently withdrew her hand and sat beside Lucian.

"Jack came by last night," he said in a deep voice.

This shocked her. "Was it when I was still in a coma? I wouldn't have known otherwise."

"You were awake, but it was late, so I told him about your situation and asked him not to disturb your rest."

She sensed something was amiss. "It was that simple? I know how Lucian feels about Jack. Their meeting couldn't have ended so simply."

Lucian frowned. "What else do you expect?"

Roxanne smiled sheepishly and stopped questioning. If Jack already knows my situation, why did he call?

Lucian spoke again. "Even though I told him, he still called. Maybe he has an ulterior motive."

She was stunned, staring at him. I feel like the "motive" he's thinking about isn't the one I have in mind.
