Chapter 1233
After a while, Lucian shifted his icy gaze from Colby, who breathed a sigh of relief. Colby then stepped aside, allowing Lucian to take his seat. They watched yesterday's surveillance footage, beginning with Roxanne's experiment with Jack.
The footage showed Roxanne joking with Jack. Colby was present, but stood several steps behind them, his expression markedly different. He appeared to be the only one focused on the experiment.
Lucian had always found Roxanne overly familiar with Jack, but this was the first time he witnessed their interaction without him. They certainly didn't look like business partners; their behavior differed sharply from Roxanne's description of their relationship. His expression grew colder with each passing moment, the air seemingly chilling around him. He was particularly enraged by their unspoken understanding; a single glance conveyed their intentions. When had this tacit agreement begun? To an outsider, they'd appear to be a couple.
His fury peaked when he saw Jack attempt to wipe Roxanne's sweat with a tissue. Colby was certain that had Roxanne not dodged Jack's gesture, Lucian would have destroyed the screen.
As the footage continued, Colby grew tenser. Despite ensuring his alterations were flawless, Lucian's scrutiny filled him with dread. Lucian's presence alone was intensely pressuring. When the modified footage appeared, Colby struggled to maintain composure, carefully observing Lucian's expression. Lucian merely furrowed his brow, his impassivity making it impossible to gauge his thoughts, but Colby's anxiety mounted.
It wasn't until the footage showed Jack carrying Roxanne from the laboratory that Lucian moved. Fear flashed in Colby's eyes. He bit his lip hard, tasting blood, to steady his nerves.
"Replay that section," Lucian ordered, his gaze sharp.
Colby shuddered and obeyed. It was the moment after the poison gas leak, when chaos erupted in the lab. Holding his breath, Colby watched, seeing nothing unusual. Yet, Lucian's request worried him.
He steeled himself and asked, "Did you see anything odd in the footage, Mr. Farwell?"
Lucian's gaze remained grim until the final second. The lack of anything unusual was the problem. Aside from Jack, Roxanne, and Colby, no one approached the lab table. The only suspects were Jack and Colby, yet neither acted suspiciously.
