Chapter 1246

The two women lowered their heads, clenching their teeth as they walked, trying to ignore the judgmental stares. Suddenly, the screech of tires pierced the air as a car braked sharply in front of them. A car door slammed.

Frieda and Aubree cautiously looked up. Jonathan stood before them, his face contorted with fury. "What did you two do? Why are you in this state?"

He sized them up, his gaze sweeping over the whispering onlookers. Intimidated by his threatening aura, the crowd quickly dispersed. Jonathan frowned, confused. "Did you two confront Dr. Jarvis?"

Since seeing his sister with Aubree at the hospital, Jonathan had worried she might act recklessly. He'd had someone watch them. Although Frieda had visited Aubree frequently in the past few days, nothing seemed amiss, so he'd ignored it. However, that afternoon, his subordinate called, reporting that Frieda and Aubree had gone to Roxanne's house. A bad feeling gripped him. He'd immediately left his meeting and rushed to the mansion, but he was too late.

Frieda's arm still ached as she met her brother's gaze. Frustrated and aggrieved, she said, "We only wanted to tell her to leave Lucian alone. What's wrong with that? Lucian and Aubree are engaged!"

Embarrassed, Aubree briefly glanced at Jonathan before gritting her teeth and looking away. She remembered Jonathan's unwavering support of Roxanne. He must be secretly enjoying this! she thought.

Jonathan was incredulous that Frieda dared to talk back. Almost choking on his rage, he yelled, "Shut up! This is Lucian's family matter. What business is it of yours? What did you do to Dr. Jarvis? Tell me!"

Fury trembled in Frieda's voice. "Dr. Jarvis, Dr. Jarvis! All you care about is Dr. Jarvis! Can't you see Aubree and I are injured? You told me not to get involved, but you seem deeply involved! Since it's Lucian's family affair, why are you so invested? Anyone would think you're in love with Roxanne!"

Simmering with anger, Jonathan raised his hand.

"Are you going to hit me too?" Tears of anger welled in Frieda's eyes. "Just kill me! Otherwise, I'll do everything I can to stop Lucian and Roxanne!"

Jonathan's hand trembled, momentarily suspended in mid-air. He saw his sister's bloodshot eyes and retracted his hand. He was about to speak when Aubree suddenly collapsed against Frieda.

"Aubree!" Frieda gasped. She wanted to catch her, but her aching arm prevented it. She looked to her brother.

He hesitated, then extended an arm to support Aubree.

"It's all your fault! Why did you have to say all those things when Aubree was already upset about Roxanne?" In a fit of anger, Frieda blamed Jonathan.

"Be quiet!" Jonathan snapped. "Get in the car. I'll take you both to the hospital. And don't let me catch you harassing Dr. Jarvis again!"

He placed Aubree in the car. Frieda let out a cold snort before sullenly getting in. Preoccupied with their own thoughts, neither noticed the subtle shift in Aubree's expression. Aubree, miserable from the earlier events and suffering from a painful shoulder, was weary of their argument. She'd feigned a faint to silence them, pleased with her success.
