Chapter 1256

After lunch, Roxanne noticed Lucian making a phone call. Shortly afterward, the mansion's doorbell rang. She opened the door to find Jonathan standing there, a smile on his face. He quickly scanned her, relieved to see she was unharmed. Grinning, he said, "Dr. Jarvis, I'm here to pick up Lucian. Where is he?"

Earlier, Lucian had called Jonathan, asking him to collect him for a face-to-face discussion. Jonathan, having a fair idea of the topic, readily agreed. He'd rushed over immediately after hanging up.

Conscious, perhaps, of arousing Roxanne's suspicion, Jonathan added casually, "It's about work. We need to talk at the company, and since I was nearby, I dropped by to pick him up."

Roxanne found his expression slightly odd but didn't press the matter. Jonathan had said it was work-related, so it likely didn't concern her. She stepped aside, letting him in. "He's inside. Go ahead and call him."

Jonathan immediately entered. At that moment, Lucian appeared, followed by the three children. Spotting Jonathan, they chorused, "Hello, Mr. Queen!"

Jonathan's face lit up at their cheerful greeting. "Hello, little ones. I came in such a hurry, I forgot to bring gifts. I'll make it up to you next time, alright?"

The children nodded obediently, then looked at Lucian with pleading eyes. "Mr. Farwell, are you leaving already?" Benny asked, clearly reluctant.

Lucian stroked Benny's head. "I have some things to attend to. I'll see you tomorrow."

Archie, Benny, and Estella looked despondent. Although they'd spent the last few days eating with Lucian and Roxanne, this felt different. They longed to remain by the couple's side, but Lucian's departure felt abrupt.

Lucian comforted them with reassuring pats on their heads, then turned to Roxanne. With Jonathan and the children present, she felt a surge of nervousness, unsure of Lucian's intentions.

He simply approached her and said, "Wait for me. I'll make it clear to you."

His deep voice filled her with confusion, but he'd already turned and joined Jonathan, heading outside without a pause. Jonathan quickly bid farewell to Roxanne and the children. "We'll be going then. See you."

The children waved politely. Jonathan swiftly caught up to Lucian, and both men got into Jonathan's car, ignoring Lucian's own vehicle.

As Roxanne watched them go, with the children beside her, questions flooded her mind. Jonathan had claimed they were going to the company for work, yet Lucian hadn't mentioned it beforehand. And Lucian's parting words left her unsettled.

"Make it clear to you? What is he referring to? Is it about Aubree and Frieda's earlier commotion, or...?"

A thought struck her, jolting her back to reality. Anticipation blossomed in her heart.
