Chapter 1257

“Lucian, how’s Dr. Jarvis?” Jonathan asked cautiously after they had driven some distance. The tension in the car was palpable, and Lucian’s grim face in the rearview mirror only amplified Jonathan’s unease. He wondered if their earlier interaction had been a figment of his imagination. Lucian had seemed perfectly normal with Roxanne and the children just moments before. Why the sudden change?

Lucian merely shot Jonathan a cold stare and asked, “Where are Aubree and your sister?”

“I sent them to the hospital,” Jonathan replied, sheepishly touching his nose.

“Take me there.”

Jonathan sighed inwardly and nodded. He worried about Lucian's reaction to Frieda.

After a moment of silence, Jonathan steered the conversation back to Roxanne and Lucian. “By the way, Dr. Jarvis wasn’t hurt, was she?”

Lucian shook his head, his expression somber. “No, she wasn’t. I checked.”

Jonathan probed, “Aubree must have gone after her because of you. Did Dr. Jarvis say anything? Wait a minute… You didn’t upset Dr. Jarvis again, did you?”

Lucian’s gaze darkened. “No. I won’t do that again.”

Jonathan remained perplexed.

“I don’t think I can ever forget the previous incident,” Lucian added gravely. “After almost losing her, all I want to do now is make her happy.”

Jonathan felt a wave of relief. “That’s more like it. If you had realized this sooner, perhaps there wouldn’t be so many problems.”

“That’s why I won’t let anyone who has hurt her off the hook!”

Jonathan’s heart sank. He regretted Frieda's actions. He had warned her repeatedly to stay out of Lucian’s affairs, yet she had persisted, tagging along with Aubree. The thought of Lucian’s anger falling upon his family, particularly his grandfather, filled him with dread.

Worry gnawed at him, and he slowed his driving. Despite his attempts to buy time, they soon arrived at the hospital. Resigned, Jonathan led the way inside.

They reached Aubree’s ward quickly. Subordinates guarding Aubree and Frieda greeted Jonathan. “Hello, Mr. Queen.”

“Has she woken up?” Jonathan asked. His question was cut short by the sound of an argument from within the ward – undoubtedly Frieda. He cleared his throat. Despite his anger towards Frieda, she was still his sister, and he couldn’t abandon her. He feared the consequences if she continued her reckless behavior.
