Chapter 1263
Cayden had always been highly efficient. His task was to investigate the research institute's recent purchase orders. That evening, he entered Farwell Group's CEO's office, the latest purchase order in hand.
"I've done as you asked, Mr. Farwell. Here, have a look."
Lucian reviewed the order while listening to Cayden's report. "A bottle of medicine on this order doesn't match the actual quantity purchased. My investigation reveals Colby privately arranged for the purchasing staff to buy it, sneaking it in with other medicines."
Cayden's face clouded. "However, I couldn't determine what medicine he smuggled. He hid it so well, even the purchasing staff doesn't know."
Lucian's gaze darkened. "We don't know the type of medicine, but Colby's behavior is suspicious. He seemed exceedingly apprehensive when I noticed the discrepancy. He may think he's hidden it well, but I saw through him." He frowned slightly. "All evidence points to Colby. I misunderstood Jack. But how do we explain his suspicious activities?"
He paused, collecting his thoughts. "The most important thing is to make Colby pay."
"Got it. You may be dismissed."
Lucian put away the purchase order, rose, and left. He had devised a plan to secure Colby's confession, even without concrete evidence, but first, he needed to discuss it with Roxanne.
Cayden, unsure of his employer's intentions, left the office and watched Lucian enter the elevator. Lucian drove directly to Roxanne's house. It was dinnertime.
Roxanne was preparing dinner for Archie, Benny, and Estella. The children opened the door.
"Mr. Farwell!" "Daddy!"
The children's faces lit up. Lucian smiled, stroking their heads before asking, "Where's your mommy?"
Archie pointed to the kitchen. Lucian nodded and excused himself, heading towards the kitchen. The children watched curiously.
Lucian paused at the kitchen doorway, silently watching Roxanne. She spun around, startled. "When did you arrive? Why didn't you tell me?"
Recovering quickly, she resumed cooking. Lucian's eyes softened. "Just now. The children let me in." He glanced at the food. "Did you include me?"
Roxanne hesitated; the portion was clearly too large for her and the children. She asked instead, "Aren't you eating here tonight?"
Lucian raised an eyebrow. "It seems you did. How embarrassing that I've been eating for free lately!"
Roxanne sensed his implication and stopped, turning to face him, puzzled. Lucian met her gaze calmly. "I have good news. We'll discuss it after dinner."
