Chapter 1264

Glimpsing the grin on Lucianโ€™s face, Roxanne was stunned. Crimson stained her cheeks. She recovered only after a moment, guiltily returning to her cooking. Lucian watched, arms crossed.

When she finished, he helped carry the dishes and set the table. Archie, Benny, and Estella were already seated. Dinner was warm and cozy. Afterward, Lucian sent the children to the living room and took Roxanne to his study.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the good news?โ€ she asked, utterly mystified.

Lucianโ€™s expression grew solemn. โ€œI think Iโ€™ve found the person who tampered with your experiment.โ€

Anxiety etched Roxanneโ€™s features. โ€œWho was it?โ€

Lucian hesitated. In the past, sheโ€™d been reluctant to suspect Colby, their long-time colleague. He wondered if she could accept the truth. He even considered delaying the revelation until he had more concrete evidence.

โ€œWas it Mr. Damaris?โ€ Roxanne finally guessed, receiving no immediate answer.

Lucianโ€™s gaze darkened. โ€œYouโ€™re that worried about him?โ€ He noted her immediate thought of Damaris, despite their infrequent mention of him lately. Her incredulity was evident.

Exasperated, Roxanne explained, โ€œItโ€™s because youโ€™ve suspected him all along! Who else could it be?โ€

Lucian frowned. โ€œThat day, only the three of you were at the lab counter.โ€ He was guiding her suspicions toward Colby.

Roxanne understood. The shock of realizing who remainedโ€”besides herself and Jackโ€”was palpable. โ€œYou mean it was Colby?โ€

The thought was incomprehensible. Theyโ€™d worked together for years. If he hated her, he would have acted sooner. Even if jealous of her project leadership, heโ€™d had ample opportunities for sabotage. Why this time, and with such cruelty? She couldnโ€™t understand.

Lucianโ€™s heart ached at her expression. โ€œAt present, heโ€™s the prime suspect.โ€

Roxanne clutched her shirt, clinging to hope. โ€œIs there proof?โ€

Lucian shook his head.

Relief washed over her. โ€œIf thereโ€™s no proof, perhaps you misunderstood. Didnโ€™t you previously say it was Mr. Damarisโ€”โ€

Lucian interrupted. โ€œThereโ€™s no proof now, but I have a way to prove it was him, if youโ€™re willing to cooperate.โ€

Roxanne was taken aback. From anyone else, it would be a baseless accusation. But this was Lucian. His certainty was nearly absolute.

โ€œI know you canโ€™t accept it,โ€ Lucian said, his gaze unwavering, โ€œbut I think youโ€™re more interested in why he did it. Iโ€™m certainly curious about his motive for trying to kill you!โ€
