Chapter 1265

When Roxanne met Lucian's gaze, her confident demeanor faltered. A moment passed before she lowered her eyes and softly agreed, "Okay, I'll do it. What do you need me to do?"

During that brief eye contact, she searched her heart. Perhaps she didn't believe Colby capable of such a thing, but given a choice between him and Lucian, her heart still leaned toward the man before her. Lucian's expression was unwavering.

Following her agreement, Lucian's face softened. He explained his plan in a low voice. Roxanne listened thoughtfully, nodding occasionally.

"Will this really work? We don't have concrete evidence," she questioned, still hesitant after hearing his proposal.

Lucian's expression turned cold. "If he's responsible, he'll definitely feel guilty in this situation. Even if not, the fear of exposure will be enough."

Roxanne was silent for a few seconds before relenting. She called Colby, informing him she would visit the research institute tomorrow. He readily agreed, his voice devoid of any unusual inflection.

After the call, her doubts resurfaced. If it truly was him, how could he have covered his tracks so effectively? Could they have truly misunderstood him?

As if sensing her apprehension, Lucian placed his hand over hers. "Trust me," he said, his voice calm and steady. "If it wasn't him, you can rest assured."

Roxanne nodded, pursing her lips. That night, she slept not at all. She couldn't accept that a long-time colleague was the culprit who nearly killed her. Her only hope lay in finding answers tomorrow.

The following morning, Lucian was already in the living room when Roxanne came downstairs. Sleep-deprived and dazed, she murmured, "Are we going now?"

Seeing her pale face, Lucian's gaze darkened. "We'll leave as soon as you've had breakfast. We can't give him any breathing room." He added, "If it was Colby, he's meticulous. Even a short delay could allow him to do a great deal of damage."

Roxanne nodded heavily. After breakfast, she bid farewell to Archie, Benny, and Estella before joining Lucian in his car.

Upon arriving at the research institute, they found Colby already there, seemingly occupied. The moment he saw them together, his expression stiffened. "Dr. Jarvis, Mr. Farwell, why are you both here? You should have notified me."

Lucian retorted sharply, "Does Dr. Jarvis need your permission to return to work?"

Colby froze, a flicker of guilt crossing his face.

Roxanne sighed inwardly and said, "Please take me to the lab. I have a feeling something was wrong with that day's experiment."

Colby's guilt intensified. He had arrived early to alter the lab counter and replace the tampered medicine with a similar-sized bottle to avoid detection. He hadn't anticipated their arrival, much less Roxanne's request to review the experiment.
