Chapter 1288
Roxanne felt a strange sense of familiarity in Sonya's words, finding them hilariously reminiscent of TV dramas and novels.
Unaware of Roxanne's amusement, Sonya continued, โSix years ago, you chose to leave Lucian. No one forced you. Do you think you can simply come and go from the Farwell residence as you please?โ
Roxanne suppressed her emotions, responding, โYou misunderstand. My leaving six years ago, and my current relationship with Lucian, are not matters I alone could decide.โ
Sonya, surprised by Roxanne's retort, grew displeased.
Roxanne continued, matter-of-factly, โDespite knowing Lucian's feelings for Aubree six years ago, you forced me to obstruct their relationship to secure a joyous event for your family and bring your grandfather good luck. I had no choice but to leave after enduring Lucian's cold treatment for three years.โ She admitted her departure was due to the Farwell family, a belief she had always held. Except for the deceased infant, she felt no remorse for leaving six years prior.
โI was heartbroken when I left. I returned only for work; a renewed relationship with Lucian was never my intention,โ Roxanne stated, fixing Sonya with a steady gaze. โIf you cannot accept me, tell Lucian. I have no say in this.โ
Sonya's anger flared. โLucian was with Aubree for six years. You ruined their relationship, yet feel no guilt, blaming the Farwell family instead? If you didnโt want this, why return? Why work in Horington? Couldn't you find employment elsewhere?โ
Roxanne frowned but remained calm. โThatโs not my decision either. Ask my professor.โ
Sonya's eyes widened in fury. โI don't care about your motives! Listen carefully: as long as I live, you will never become part of the Farwell family! Lucian is my son; I know him best. You failed to win his love in three years. Why would six years change that? Besides, you have two illegitimate children!โ
Roxanne remained calm and indifferent, seemingly unfazed by Sonyaโs words. However, her expression darkened at the mention of Archie and Benny.
โMrs. Farwell, consider your age. Why involve two children in adult matters? You claim to protect the Farwell family's reputation, yet you disgrace it by speaking that way about innocent children?โ
Sonya, pleased by Roxanne's change in demeanor, continued her provocation. โDid I say anything wrong? Theyโre about five or six, arenโt they? You bore them to another man less than a year after leaving the Farwells. You claim to love Lucian, but I believe you only love his wealth! Now you act wronged. Do you think you can trick me?โ
