Chapter 1304
An indeterminate time passed before Cory regained his senses. "Mr. Farwell, I was wrong! I'll never dare do this again. Aubree forced me!" he begged, panic lacing his words. "I don't want the money. Please let me go! I'll leave!"
He rose from the chair, desperate to escape the oppressive atmosphere of Lucian's office. The gloomy aura felt like hell. He couldn't bear another second there.
"Stop," Lucian commanded as Cory reached the door.
Simultaneously, Cayden moved to block his path, gesturing for Cory to return.
Remorse washed over Cory as he found himself trapped. If he could turn back time, he'd never have met Lucian.
Seeing escape was futile, Cory turned, keeping a cautious distance as he addressed Lucian. "What else can I do for you, Mr. Farwell?"
Lucian rose from his desk, his gaze dark. "I can give you the money."
Cory was stunned. Could this be real? Was he dreaming?
Lucian's voice cut through his disbelief. "But not now."
Reality struck hard. His years in the industry had made him shrewd. He sensed a task lay ahead, and it wouldn't be easy. Yet, he had no choice. He'd rather earn Lucian's favor than face further coercion.
A subservient smile touched his lips. "Mr. Farwell, how can I help? I'll do my best!"
Lucian passed him, addressing Cayden. "Take Mr. Zaythrone to the reception room to rest."
Cayden nodded.
On the way, Cory's heart hammered, leaving him breathless with anxiety.
Meanwhile, Aubree had returned to the Pearson residence. Her legs trembled as she stumbled from the car, nearly falling.
"Aubree!"
Gina, anxiously awaiting her in the living room, brightened at her arrival. "Where have you been? You haven't eaten in days, barely left your room, and then disappeared without a word! Do you know how worried I was?"
Samuel shared her concern.
"Just forget the engagement," Gina soothed. "Lucian will remember your grandfather's kindness, so the Pearson family's standing remains."
Though disappointed about the broken engagement, Gina and Samuel prioritized Aubree's well-being.
"Mom, Dad, things might change for the Pearson family," Aubree stammered.
Gina's words caught in her throat. Exchanging a look with Samuel, she realized this was serious. Color drained from her face. "What happened? Why are you saying this?" A sense of foreboding washed over her as she assessed Aubree's appearance. "Be honest. What have you done?"
Aubree's lip trembled. "IโI messed up! Lucian won't forgive me! Mom, Dad, please help me. You're my only hope!"
