Chapter 1309

After reassuring Estella, Roxanne approached Lucian with Archie and Benny. "Mr. Farwell, why was that man following Mommy?"

Archie, ever vigilant, had been observing Cory while Roxanne spoke with Estella. Hearing this, Roxanne frowned at Cory. She suspected Lucian's request for their presence was connected to him, but couldn't understand why Archie and Benny were included. Concerned, she asked Lucian, "Shall we let the children go upstairs to play?"

Lucian shook his head gravely. "This matter involves them, too."

Roxanne and the children were startled. They were just children; what could warrant such a serious expression from Lucian? A thought struck her. Hesitantly, she began, "Is itโ€”"

"Have a seat and wait," Lucian interrupted, gesturing towards some chairs.

Roxanne reluctantly postponed her questions. The children sat beside Lucian, thoughtfully saving the seat next to him for Roxanne. However, Roxanne chose a seat placing the children between herself and Lucian, preferring a less conspicuous position given the unknown circumstances. She pondered the situation. The only connection she could think of involving the three children was Estella's infection during their camping trip. Had the investigation concluded?

Roxanne remembered Lucian's introduction of Cory. If Cory had been following her, had he witnessed the events of that day? This possibility made her glance anxiously at Cory. Was the culprit she suspectedโ€”Aubreeโ€”involved?

Just as she gathered the children in her embrace, intending to question Lucian, a commotion erupted at the door. Everyone turned to see Catalina ushering in Sonya, whose sullen expression revealed recent anger. Sonya's scowl deepened upon seeing Roxanne and her sons.

"Essie, come to Grandma," Sonya said, her eyes filled with guilt as they rested on Estella.

Estella, clinging tightly to Roxanne's sleeve, refused. Sonya's face contorted, threatening to explode in anger, but she composed herself. Instead of forcing Estella, she addressed Roxanne with displeasure before turning her attention to Lucian.

"I just returned from the Pearson residence. They should arrive any minute."

Roxanne's expression shifted. As expected, the Pearsons were implicated! Lucian gave his mother a questioning look.

Sonya's brows furrowed. "They begged for my mercy, but I refused, telling them to speak to you instead." She settled into an armchair beside Lucian. She wanted to witness the Pearsons' explanation to her son for harming her granddaughter and lying to her, and to ensure Aubree apologized to Estella.
