Chapter 1318

The expensive plants had been replaced with simpler flowers, and colorful lights adorned the walls. Unsure if Lucian approved, Cayden explained, “I kept the decorations simple, as you instructed, Mr. Farwell.”

Lucian’s gaze softened as he surveyed the garden. “This will do. Did you bring the item I requested?”

Cayden produced an exquisite velvet box and presented it. The cold expression on Lucian’s face vanished as he opened the box and saw its contents.

Exhausted from crying, Estella slept in Roxanne’s arms. Roxanne, also tired from the afternoon’s incident with Aubree, napped on Estella’s bed.

Finding Roxanne and Estella asleep, Archie and Benny quietly left the room. From the balcony, they saw Lucian and Cayden conversing in the garden. They couldn’t hear them, but saw Cayden hand Lucian a small box. Peeking closer, they glimpsed something shiny inside.

Benny’s eyes widened. “Is Daddy going to propose to Mommy?” The item appeared to be a ring.

Archie, initially surprised, frowned. That evil woman had caused a scene recently. Was Daddy really proposing so soon? He wondered if Daddy had asked Grandma to witness the proposal.

Excitement quickly replaced Archie’s confusion. They were tempted to wake Roxanne, but remembered her mild fever that morning and decided to wait.

Fortunately, Roxanne didn't sleep long. Around eight o'clock, she awoke to find Estella gone. She saw the children huddled together, whispering on the carpet.

Archie spotted her. “Mommy! You’re awake!” The children approached the bed.

“What were you whispering about?” Roxanne asked Estella. “And when did you wake up?”

Estella smiled. “I wasn’t tired; I napped at noon.”

Roxanne noticed Estella’s improved mood and forbore from asking about her health, simply patting her head.

“We’re hungry, Mommy! Let’s eat!” Benny tugged at her arm.

Roxanne gasped, checking the time. Eight o'clock! Why hadn't anyone woken her?

“You must be starving. I’m sorry I overslept,” she said, taking the children downstairs.

A few dishes sat on the dining table, but the room was empty. Roxanne felt bad about missing dinner, assuming everyone had eaten without her. She was relieved to find food remaining.
