Chapter 1339

Gina and her husband were momentarily at a loss. They initially believed Sonya had come to ease the tension. However, Sonya's arrogant demeanor left them uncertain. Gina tentatively pleaded, “Mrs. Farwell, we will heed your advice and avoid further mistakes. Please help us!”

As she spoke, Sonya's gaze shifted to Samuel. Gina understood immediately and subtly drew his attention. Sonya clearly still considered the Pearson family useful, seeking their loyalty. Since Gina lacked authority within the family, Sonya subtly prompted Samuel to act.

Despite their long friendship, Gina knew that after the Pearson family's actions, they were at Sonya's mercy. Their relationship had become purely transactional. Samuel, too, understood Sonya's intentions, but he hesitated, unwilling to relinquish the Pearson Group. The thought of refusal, however, risked losing not only the Group but also his influence within it.

He gritted his teeth and agreed. “In the future, neither the Pearson family nor Pearson Group will oppose your wishes. I promise you.”

Sonya finally nodded, lowering her crossed legs. “Where is Aubree?” she asked, glancing at the damaged bedroom door.

Gina nervously laughed. “She argued with Samuel this morning and ran away. I can call her back if you wish.” While worried about Aubree's actions, Gina hadn't intervened because of Samuel. Sonya's question provided an excuse to retrieve her daughter.

Displeasure flickered in Sonya's eyes. Aubree's tantrum and flight surprised her. Samuel and Gina sensed a shift in Sonya's demeanor.

“Forget it!” Sonya said, withdrawing her gaze. “Tell her to cease any further trouble upon her return.”

A question arose in Samuel and Gina's minds: Did Sonya's visit signify hope for the engagement? Sonya's next words shattered that hope.

“While the Farwell-Pearson engagement is off, Roxanne will not marry into our family after damaging Farwell Group's reputation!” Fury etched Sonya's face. “I'll speak to Lucian on your behalf, but if Aubree acts recklessly again, she’ll face the consequences!”

Samuel and Gina were bewildered. Why these actions if the engagement was cancelled? They dared not question Sonya's anger, simply replying, “We will monitor Aubree and prevent any further mistakes.”

Sonya left, a smug look on her face. At least they will no longer dare to cross us, she thought.

The satisfaction on Samuel's face faded as he watched her go. I surrendered the Pearson family's authority because of my incompetent daughter! he lamented.
