Chapter 1338
At the Pearson residence, Samuel had been besieged by calls since morning, a consequence of the online drama and the Farwells' pressure. The calls ranged from reports of his subsidiaries' poor performance to discussions regarding contract terminations. Tension had been palpable at the Pearson residence all morning. Even though Gina worried about her daughter, she hadn't dared call to check on her with Samuel present.
That afternoon, Samuel remained secluded in his study while Gina sat alone at the kitchen table, her appetite lost amidst the tension and uncertainty. The untouched, now cold, food remained a stark testament to the family's distress. This was the scene that greeted Sonya upon her arrival; she immediately noted Aubree's room directly opposite the mansion's main entrance.
"Mrs. Farwell, what brings you here?"
Gina, instantly reminded of the previous day's ordeal at the sight of Sonya, visibly shuddered and rose unsteadily. Samuel, hearing the doorbell, emerged from his study. Seeing Sonya, he ended his call and hurried downstairs.
"Mrs. Farwell, what brings you here? Aubree realizes she was wrong, and we Pearsons have learned our lesson. Please, don't make things any more difficult for us..." Embarrassment colored Samuel's words.
Sonya frowned, surveying the Pearson residence. She observed the untouched dishes on the dining table and the exhaustion etched on Samuel and Gina's faces. They looked a decade older, ravaged by worry and stress. Her heart ached for them; they had been good friends for many years. Remembering Aubree's actions, she sighed. "How could you allow Aubree to do this to Essie? The Farwells have never mistreated you, have we?"
Samuel and Gina exchanged a hopeful glance, sensing a softening in Sonya's demeanor.
Samuel said, resignedly, "We didn't want this to happen. Aubree was foolish and has learned her lesson. She says she acted out of desperation to marry Lucian."
Gina added, "Aubree has been confined to her room since yesterday. We've spoken to her seriously, and she's learned her lesson. She will apologize and make amends with Lucian and Essie."
Sonya's heart ached at their sincerity and exhaustion. She studied them, assessing the genuineness of their apology. Their heads hung low; one face flushed with anger, the other red-rimmed from tears. Their remorse was evident.
Sonya slowly retracted her gaze and sat on the living room couch. "Aubree was carried away. Things wouldn't have turned out this way if she'd listened to me and tried to get along with Lucian and Essie," she said regretfully.
Samuel and Gina grasped her meaning immediately. "Mrs. Farwell, we realize the enormity of our mistake and have learned our lesson. Could you persuade Mr. Farwell to let this go?"
Sonya remained silent, sitting elegantly with crossed legs on the couch.
