Chapter 1349
Lucian, understanding Roxanne's concern for the children, didn't press her. "Let's go."
The children slowly lowered their arms at the sound of his voice, exchanging surreptitious smiles with Roxanne. They hadn't seen, but they had heard everything. Mommy promised to wear a dress like this only for Daddy. Does that mean Mommy loves him? No, Mommy has always loved Daddy. She only rejected his proposal because of Grandma.
Archie and Benny's smiles dimmed slightly at this thought. A moment later, they were swept into their father's embrace. Surprise froze them briefly before the sight of the ocean revived their joy.
With Roxanne leading Estella, the five of them strolled along the beach. Soon, however, the boys, tired of being carried, grew restless and struggled to free themselves. Lucian complied, setting them down on the sand where they chased each other playfully.
Roxanne, feeling a little anxious, followed after them. Lucian jogged alongside, then slowed to a walk, a thought causing him to pause. A twinkle lit his eyes as he watched Roxanne interact with the children. He pulled out his phone and began taking pictures, remembering how much she enjoyed photographing them on their last vacation. He felt it his responsibility to document their growth; he knew, though she'd never said so, she would cherish these moments. However, previously there had been no one to take her picture, leaving her absent from the family photos.
Roxanne, after a short time, excused herself. She longed to continue playing, but the activity caused her discomfort; bending over tightened her already ill-fitting undergarments. Worried they might tear, she blushed deeply, offering a hesitant smile. "I'm a little tired. You guys play by yourselves."
Relieved, the children didn't question her. They actually wanted their parents to have some time alone.
"What's wrong? Are you unwell?" Lucian, putting aside his phone, was alarmed by her unusual expression. He hadn't missed her odd gestures while photographing; her frequent bending and straightening had roused his suspicion. I wonder if sheโs feeling unwell.
Roxanne's cheeks flushed even deeper. "I'm fine..." I can't tell Lucian he bought me undersized underwear! The thought alone mortified her.
Worried, Lucian touched her forehead, checking for fever, but found nothing unusual. "You're not feverish. What could it be?"
Roxanne bit her lip, too embarrassed to speak. Lucian's worry grew. "Let's call it a day. We'll go to the hospital for a check-up."
