Chapter 1350
At those words, Roxanne looked at the children in the distance, enjoying themselves immensely. She wondered if Lucian's presence provided a sense of security, making them seem happier than before. She couldn't spoil their fun; outings were rare for them.
Roxanne steeled herself, rejecting Lucian's suggestion. "I'm not unwell. My clothes aren't suitable for physical activity."
Lucian fixed her with a penetrating gaze. "Where? Are they too loose?"
Seizing the opportunity, Roxanne nodded.
A moment later, his voice, tinged with displeasure, followed. "Loose-fitting shouldn't prevent you from playing with the children. I felt it when I hugged you earlier; they fit perfectly."
Roxanne's cheeks flushed crimson. She glared helplessly up at him. My words couldn't be clearer, yet he still doubts me. Does he want me to spell it out?
Noticing her fury, Lucian offered an inscrutable smile and leaned close. Before she could retreat, he was before her. "Did I buy the undergarments in the wrong size?" he asked softly, sweeping his gaze over her bust.
Instinctively, Roxanne covered herself.
His low chuckle echoed. "I bought them based on an order you placed six years ago, but I'd forgotten you'd had children. My mistake."
Roxanne felt her ears burn. She silently turned away from his breath on her ear.
Lucian's voice persisted. "I can't take all the blame. You never gave me a chance to take measurements. I'd remember them after measuring once, and I won't make the same mistake again."
Roxanne was outraged by his shameless words. After six years apart, he'd become bolder. This wasn't the Lucian she knew. Her heart pounded; she was too nervous to meet his gaze.
To her relief, he didn't press her. Seeing her panic, he laughed, averting his gaze, and pulled out his phone. "Since you can't run around, would you like to see the pictures I took?"
Like a startled rabbit, Roxanne searched for a hiding place, missing his words. Lucian frowned slightly but remained patient. "The kids enjoy having you around."
Roxanne's resolve wavered at the mention of the children.
"Essie looks like you when she smiles. Here." Lucian scrolled through the photographs, commenting briefly and observing Roxanne's expression. Each mention of the children shifted her gaze.
"Let me see."
Finally, Roxanne yielded to the temptation of seeing Estella's smile and leaned closer. Basking in the satisfaction of regaining her trust, Lucian didn't complicate things further, placing the phone in her hand.
Roxanne eagerly took it, focusing on the group photo of the children, a surge of gratitude washing over her.
