Chapter 1371
I couldn't believe I thought Lucian wanted to hold hands. He's obviously not that childish.
Noticing her silence, Lucian stopped and turned, asking with concern, "A penny for your thoughts?"
His voice jolted Roxanne from her reverie. She blushed, recalling her silent contemplation. "Oh, it's nothing," she murmured.
Lucian raised an eyebrow skeptically. He clearly didn't believe her.
Roxanne touched her stomach. "I'm hungry after walking so far. Is there anywhere to eat nearby?"
Immediately, Lucian took her hand before she could retract it.
Roxanne's heart skipped a beat as she stared at their joined hands, incredulous.
"Come on. Let's find a restaurant," he said, pushing their suitcase with one hand while holding hers with the other. He slowed his pace to walk beside her.
Stunned, Roxanne let him lead her.
This charming town, nestled in the foothills, was known for its pleasant atmosphere and peaceful setting. However, it lacked significant development. Only small, inexpensive restaurants lined the road.
They walked the entire street, but Lucian found none to his liking.
Finally, Roxanne stopped before a pasta restaurant. "This will do," she said, her apprehension gradually easing.
She watched with amusement as Lucian's expression twisted into one of disgust. She'd traveled extensively with Harvey to remote mountains and rural areas, often providing medical consultations or searching for rare medicinal plants. She was accustomed to humble eateries, unlike Lucian, who favored five-star restaurants.
His frown deepened as he stopped beside her, clearly disapproving of the restaurant. It was cleaner than the others, but still not up to his standards.
"This is the cleanest we'll find," Roxanne said calmly, mounting the steps.
Lucian's brow furrowed, but he followed.
It was noon, and the restaurant was crowded. Their arrival immediately attracted attention. Roxanne seemed unfazed, finding a seat and settling in. Lucian, however, frowned, his temper threatening to flare.
"We're obviously outsiders," Roxanne reassured him. "It's natural they're curious."
At that moment, the owner approached with a warm smile. "Welcome! You must be new. You've made a great choice! We pride ourselves on being the cleanest restaurant in town, and our food is delicious! Just look how busy we are!" He gave them a thumbs-up.
Roxanne smiled politely. "Yes, I can see that."
The owner, emboldened, handed them menus and engaged them in conversation. "You two look like a couple. What brings you to our little town?"
Roxanne paused mid-menu, glancing instinctively at Lucian. He seemed to have accepted the restaurant, his usual composure restored as he perused the menu. Perhaps he projected an aura of authority, because even this modest place felt somehow like a five-star establishment.
