Chapter 1386
As if wanting Roxanne to observe his technique, Jack inserted the needles exceptionally slowly. This gave Roxanne ample time to consider the details. The method differed significantly from any acupuncture technique she'd encountered. Despite studying ancient medical texts, she'd never seen anything like it. This, she surmised, was the key to the Damaris family's unique approach.
Each needle insertion initially baffled her, but upon seeing the next chosen point, the complementary nature of the technique became apparent.
"The following insertions are crucial; watch carefully," Jack said, turning to her and slowing his movements further to demonstrate the precise needle positioning. Roxanne intently observed his hands. When the needle descended, she frowned in shock and confusion. The final six insertions weren't placed on any recognized acupuncture point, leaving her utterly bewildered as to their purpose.
Roxanne then examined the elderly man's condition. Once Jack finished, the man's brows furrowed, his face flushed, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
Worried, Roxanne asked, "Sir, how do you feel? Are you unwell?" She turned back to Jack, her concern for the man's unusual reaction battling with a fear that Jack might misinterpret her question as a lack of faith in the Damaris family's method.
Jack, however, remained unperturbed, a small, confident smile playing on his lips, even witnessing the man's reaction.
Roxanne again focused on the elderly man, who appeared to be self-assessing. After a moment, he replied, "It feelsโฆ comfortable. For years, I've felt a coldness in my chest, but now it's warm. The iciness is completely gone." He closed his eyes, savoring the sensation, his excitement growing.
Jack finally spoke, explaining, "He has rheumatism. The sweating is a normal, even expected, response to the treatment; it indicates the acupuncture is working."
Roxanne nodded in understanding. After a time, Jack checked the clock and removed the needles.
"Sir, you'll need regular acupuncture sessions. The Damarises will visit periodically. Please rest and avoid agitation," Jack instructed.
The elderly man choked back emotion, "I know, I know. Your acupuncture skills are fantasticโฆ"
As Jack removed the last needle, he turned to find the elderly man bending to kneel before him.
"Sir, please don't! This is our job!" Jack exclaimed, quickly supporting the man.
Tears streamed down the elderly man's face as he murmured, "You have no idea how long I've suffered. Without you two, I truly believe I would have died from thisโฆ"
Such elderly individuals often faced profound loneliness. Death from illness was one thing; suffering the slow torment of a chronic disease was quite another. Without care, each episode became a living hell. The elderly man was profoundly relieved to learn his condition was treatable.
