Chapter 1398
Just as Roxanne ended the call, someone knocked on her door. Opening it, she saw Lucian standing outside. His eyebrows were furrowed, as if surprised by her quick response.
โWhatโs the matter?โ Roxanne asked, puzzled. โHave you finished your business? Itโs almost time for you to leave, isnโt it?โ
His eyebrows slowly relaxed. โAlmost. I was wondering if youโd like me to drive you to the nursing home.โ He actually wanted to ensure she didn't speak with Jack for too long.
Remembering Jackโs words, Roxanne replied, โThanks, but I donโt need to visit the nursing home today. The seriously ill patients were examined yesterday; only the healthy ones remain.โ
โThen we should return home soon,โ Lucian suggested. โThe children are waiting, and I need to assist at Horingtonโs branch. Most importantly, staying here makes it difficult to prevent you from interacting with Jack if he appears.โ
She initially agreed, but concerned about potential accidents at the nursing home, she reconsidered and refused. โYou can go ahead if youโre in a hurry. I think Iโll return later.โ
He knitted his brow, gazing at her intently. Understanding his misunderstanding, Roxanne explained resignedly, โIโm worried I missed someone with a serious condition yesterday. If the doctors identify any today, I can be there promptly to treat them. So, I want to stay in Jadeborough for half a day.โ
His expression softened as he nodded. โIโll keep you company.โ
His casual tone surprised her. Lucian clarified, โI brought you here, so I should bring you back. Besides, I donโt have anything pressing right now. I can stay a little longer.โ
She was touched. He hadnโt explicitly stated it, but she knew he was waiting for her. Still, waiting idly at the hotel for half a day would be boring. Then she had an ideaโฆ
โSince itโs still early,โ she suggested, โletโs go shopping and buy some presents for the children. That way, we wonโt be bored, and I can still respond to anything that arises at the nursing home. Plus, the kids will be happy to receive gifts!โ
Lucian nodded. They packed their bags, checked out, and he drove them to the commercial district. On the drive, they chatted comfortably.
Roxanneโs last visit to Jadeborough had been six years prior. Much had changed, making the city feel unfamiliar. Thankfully, Lucian patiently explained the alterations, their timing, and reasons. She enjoyed his commentary immensely.
โI heard from Madilyn that thereโs a famous childrenโs theme park in Jadeborough,โ she said, her tone laced with regret. โI bet the children would love it.โ
He instantly understood her unspoken thoughts. โNext time we bring them here, weโll visit,โ he said.
