Chapter 1421

Frieda, wearing a reluctant expression, was ejected from the house. Inwardly, however, she rejoiced. Getting thrown out by Aubree's parents would provide the perfect excuse to sever ties with Aubreeโ€”a most welcome development!

Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed. Aubree quickly intervened, intercepting her mother. "Mom, please don't be like this. Frieda is unlike the rest of the Queen family. She's my best friend. Look, she even gave us money!" Aubree then glared fiercely at Frieda before attempting to mollify her mother. She despised the Queen family, yet knew she couldn't abandon Frieda entirelyโ€”at least not yet.

Gina, emotionally volatile, turned on Aubree. "Why are you defending her? Have you forgotten how we ended up in this predicament?"

Aubree's expression hardened. "I didn't forget. But that's exactly why we can't chase Frieda away!" She forcefully pulled Gina back into the living room, then, before entering, signaled Frieda to leave.

Disappointed, Frieda departed.

Inside the mansion, Gina was consumed by anger and despair, unable to articulate her feelings; she could only weep uncontrollably. Aubree, equally frustrated, merely glanced at her mother and silently ascended the stairs. The already dilapidated mansion descended further into gloom.

Meanwhile, after several days of intense work, Roxanne received another call from Jack.

"Ms. Jarvis, do you remember the new drug I mentioned? The one I'm planning to research and develop?" Jack's cheerful voice filled the line.

Roxanne, overwhelmed by work, only vaguely recalled their prior conversation after Jack's prompt. "Do you need my help?" she asked, finding a quiet spot to take the call.

"Collaborating with the Damaris family would greatly benefit our research institute in Chanaea," Jack stated.

"It would be wonderful to work together," Jack continued. "I firmly believe your research institute is my ideal business partner."

Roxanne readily agreed. "It's my honor to continue working with the Damaris family."

Jack chuckled. "We'll discuss the details when we meet." They arranged a time and place before disconnecting.

Immediately, another call came inโ€”this time from Lucian.

"Have you been very busy these past few days? Essie says you're hardly home," Lucian inquired.

Roxanne realized they hadn't seen each other much since returning from Jadeborough. Lucian had visited the children several times, but she'd been absent, leaving them in Linda's care. She hadn't spent much time with them lately either.

A guilty look crossed Roxanne's face. "The research institute has taken on more projects; we're busier than usual. But it'll improve soon."

Lucian frowned slightly. "No matter how busy you are, don't overwork yourself. Don't forget the kids are waiting at home."

Roxanne found his words amusing. He's more of a workaholic than I am! she thought. Yet, she also felt a warmth spread through her heart.
