Madilyn cocked a brow, stepping aside to usher them inside the helicopter. “Come aboard. I’m here to pick you up.”

Roxanne was astonished. Is she asking us to leave just like that? We might escape this time, but what about when the reporters come for us again?

Seeing Roxanne motionless, Madilyn urged, “Hurry up! What are you hesitating for? Whatever concerns you have, we’ll discuss them on board.” She extended a hand.

With the helicopter hovering nearby, Roxanne realized Madilyn’s efforts would be wasted if she didn’t board. She took Madilyn’s hand; a single step was all it took.

After securing Estella, Roxanne turned to help the boys, only to find them eager to board. Madilyn, sharing their enthusiasm, scooped them up, one in each hand.

Roxanne, expecting fear, was surprised by their excitement. Once inside, they curiously examined the helicopter, seemingly forgetting their predicament. Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief at their lack of fear.

As the helicopter ascended, Madilyn stood bravely by the cabin door, playing to the reporters’ cameras. She even gave them a cheerful wave, as if bidding farewell.

“What are you doing? Come back inside! It’s dangerous!” Roxanne gasped.

Only when the helicopter was out of sight did Madilyn reluctantly close the cabin door.

“Is this your plan?” Roxanne asked incredulously. She felt the method overly dramatic and didn’t address the core issue. Persistent reporters would simply pursue them again.

Madilyn patted Roxanne’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. There’s more to it than just picking you up.”

Roxanne gave her a resigned look. I wonder how a doctor gets these outrageous ideas.

“Honestly, I was swamped with work. I only saw the news this morning. His public declaration that the children are his changed my perspective,” Madilyn admitted. Even though she knew Archie and Benny were Lucian’s children, Lucian hadn’t. For such a powerful man to acknowledge another man’s children, he must deeply love Roxanne! Madilyn decided to remove Lucian from her list of “jerks.” She still needed time, however, to consider handing her best friend over to him.

Roxanne’s eyes twitched at Madilyn’s teasing; she avoided her gaze.

Madilyn continued, “When I requested a helicopter, he provided one immediately. He’s incredibly generous. Also…” She leaned in, a knowing smile playing on her lips. “It’s clear he’s worried about you all. He almost broke through the reporters to reach you!”
