Chapter 1446
“Let’s talk inside the hotel. It’s getting chilly,” Madilyn suggested tactfully, aware of their shyness.
Roxanne nodded, circling Lucian to walk ahead. As she brushed his shoulder, he reached out, then retracted his hand with a frown. He felt responsible for her predicament and didn't want to burden her further.
Reservations weren't needed; the hotel belonged to Farwell Group. Lucian had secured the penthouse for them. Upon arrival, Madilyn led the children to another room, giving the adults privacy.
Roxanne found herself alone with Lucian the moment the door closed. He approached with heavy steps.
“Where’s Madilyn and the children?” Roxanne asked.
Instead of answering, Lucian grasped her hand, preventing her from leaving. “Are you alright?” he repeated his question from the rooftop.
A warm smile touched Roxanne’s face as she sensed his concern. “We’re fine. The kids were frightened, but calmed down once they knew the reporters couldn’t enter. It was the helicopter that shocked us.”
Lucian explained, his brow furrowed, “I couldn’t think of another way. It was the smallest helicopter we have.” He admitted having initial doubts, but rescuing them was the priority.
Even though Roxanne was only teasing, the helicopter’s mention frustrated her. “I understand, but wasn’t it dramatic? I’m worried about the fallout.”
Roxanne’s distress darkened Lucian’s eyes. He pulled her into an embrace, reassuring her, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle this. I won’t let them interfere with your life.”
Roxanne, about to pull away, hesitated as his scent calmed her. She returned his embrace. Despite the day’s troubles, she was touched by his acceptance of Archie and Benny as his own children, regardless of their origins. A warm atmosphere settled over the room.
The door burst open. “Mommy!” Benny called. Madilyn followed, anxious. “Don’t go in. Your daddy and mommy need to talk.” Seeing them embraced, they froze.
The two groups stared, the newcomers wondering if they could retreat. The interruption caused Roxanne to freeze, then instinctively pull away from Lucian.
