Chapter 1462
Watching the children play, Ophelia couldn't help but remember her own frugal life overseas. Without Aubree's help, her studies would have been far more difficult. Initially, Aubree had hoped Ophelia would join Pearson Group upon her return. Ophelia felt deeply grateful for Aubree's unwavering support. They shared their mutual disdain for Roxanne. Sadly, none anticipated Pearson Group's demise before Ophelia's return.
Aubree attributed the Pearson family's downfall largely to Roxanne's manipulative influence over Lucian, ultimately driving a wedge between Lucian and Aubree and orchestrating the family's destruction. While other factors contributed, Roxanne's actions were undeniably decisive. Roxanne had hurt her friend and ruined the Pearson family, dashing Ophelia's ambitions. Ophelia's resentment was therefore understandable. Even securing her kindergarten job had been Aubree's idea. They decided Roxanne deserved retribution.
Ophelia readily agreed. Her plan was to harm Roxanne's children as a form of revenge, though she'd lacked opportunity until now. The sports day presented the perfect chance. She observed the children intently, formulating her plan. The children, meanwhile, were engrossed in the games.
The first event was a puzzle competition. The teachers had chosen challenging puzzles. Children from affluent backgrounds, despite extra tutoring, struggled. Archie and Benny, however, completed their puzzles easily, smugly clapping. They assumed Estella hadn't finished, but she had.
"Essie, you're so smart!" Benny exclaimed.
Estella grinned. The other children, neglecting their own puzzles, showered the trio with praise.
Next was a blindfolded obstacle course. Archie and Benny completed it first, then assisted Estella, who also succeeded, her grin widening. Lost in the games, they didn't notice Ophelia watching. Jeffrey and the other teachers were also supervising.
After some time, Ophelia devised a plan. Ensuring she was unobserved, she slipped away to the equipment room. The children's sneakers, lovingly prepared and labeled by their parents, were neatly arranged. Ophelia located Benny's shoes in a far corner, her expression grim as she picked them up.
