Chapter 1463
The next game was hopping on one foot. The children went to the equipment room to change into their sneakers.
After changing, Benny felt slightly uncomfortable, likely because he hadnโt worn these shoes in a while. He dismissed it and hurried to Archie and Estella, who were urging him along.
This was an individual game, and Bennyโs turn wasnโt until later. After Archie and Estella finished, they watched him. "Remember to be careful," Pippa reminded them repeatedly. Ophelia stood ready to intervene.
The children had done well in previous games, so their friends cheered Benny on expectantly. His competitive spirit surged, and he hopped quickly, increasing his speed with their encouragement. He realized something was wrong too late to stop.
โBenny!โ Archie yelled, noticing Benny's unusual behavior first, and rushed to his brother. Benny tried to stop, but the harder he tried, the more unbalanced he became. He fell, landing awkwardly on a hurdle, breaking it. He winced in pain, his hand twisted beneath him. A sharp pain shot up his arm. Unexpectedly, the usually strong Benny burst into tears.
โBenny, what happened? Let me see your injury!โ Ophelia, closest to him, rushed over, embracing him tightly while discreetly wiping oil from the ground. Archie arrived, knelt beside Benny, and spotted his injured wrist. โMs. Smith, I think Bennyโs wrist is fractured!โ he exclaimed.
The boys, having grown up in the research institute, weren't medical experts, but their experience there gave them some understanding. Bennyโs loud wailing was unusual, convincing Archie of a serious injury.
โMs. Smith, letโs bring Benny to the doctor! He must be in pain!โ
Ophelia feigned agreement. โCalm down. Iโll bring him to the doctor now!โ She then subtly removed Bennyโs sneakers, hiding them before other teachers arrived, and took him to the infirmary.
Benny continued crying throughout the journey. Estella, never having seen him so distraught, felt a pang of fear. Taking Archieโs hand, she whispered, โIs Benny seriously injured? Iโฆ Iโm scared.โ Her eyes reddened. โLetโs call Mommy! Iโm sure she can treat him!โ
Archie, though flustered, reassured her calmly, โThereโs no need to be scared. The doctor will assess him. If itโs serious, then weโll call Mommy. Sheโs busy, so we shouldnโt disturb her unless necessary.โ
Estella calmed slightly, clutching Archieโs clothes nervously.
