Chapter 1488
When the four of them arrived home, Roxanne had already prepared dinner and was resting on the couch. Hearing the door open, she awoke and greeted them.
โMommy!โ
The children rushed to her, hugging her legs. Roxanne smiled, patting their heads. โDid you have fun today?โ
Benny nodded enthusiastically, then looked at Lucian with bright eyes. โYes! Daddy brought us to the amusement park, and we watched a movie!โ
Roxanne's smile faltered a moment after hearing Benny's words. Instead of questioning him, she gave Lucian an inquiring glance.
Lucian explained calmly, โI told them to address me as โDaddyโ in public. Itโs necessary, given my public profile. Otherwise, it could be troublesome.โ
A fleeting look crossed Roxanne's eyes. She patted the children's heads, remaining silent. It was only a matter of time before they addressed Lucian as "Daddy," a reality she had to accept. She worried, however, about the children's reaction upon learning about their background.
Archie, sensing the tension, announced, โMommy, Iโm starving!โ
Roxanne's attention returned. โLet's eat! Go wash your hands. I'll heat the food.โ
The children obeyed, removing their shoes and entering the house. Lucian washed his hands and followed Roxanne into the kitchen. His presence, however, brought back the memory of their kiss in that very spot, stiffening her.
โIโm sorry. I should have checked with you before telling the children to call me โDaddyโ,โ Lucian's deep voice said from behind her.
Roxanne lowered her gaze, hiding her discomfort. Composing herself, she replied flatly, โItโs alright. Youโre right. They should call you that in public.โ
Quickly changing the subject, she added, โThe food is ready. Letโs eat.โ
Lucian, understanding her evasion, helped her carry the dishes. The children were already seated at the table, positioned so their parents could sit together.
Lucian sat calmly, but Roxanne hesitated before joining him. During dinner, her thoughts drifted back to Benny's words, compounded by her busy work schedule.
She only returned to the present when she noticed a peeled prawn in her bowl.
โHave you been overworking yourself these past few days?โ Lucian's voice held a hint of concern.
Roxanne smiled, โIโm fine. Just busy for now.โ
She went to serve the children, but seeing their plates full, her eyes shifted to Lucian, who was still peeling prawns, having yet to eat. Touched by this, she softly thanked him.
He responded by serving her another peeled prawn.
