Chapter 1491

What began as a gentle kiss quickly escalated into an intense embrace. Feeling breathless, Roxanne abruptly pulled away, glancing upstairs. "The kids are upstairs! They might see us!"

Anxiously, she pushed Lucian away. He loosened his grip slightly. Before she could utter a protest, "Don'tโ€”" his lips found hers again. It seemed he was merely giving her a moment to recover. Then, she felt herself being lifted from the couch. As his hands moved towards her breasts, panic seized her. Worried about the children and unsure how to react, she squeezed his arm, causing him to freeze.

Seizing the opportunity, Roxanne shoved him away and sat upright. How I wish I could hide behind the couch!

Lucian's eyes darkened, his expression one of dissatisfaction. "Don't do this," Roxanne pleaded, avoiding his gaze. "The kids are upstairs. What if they see us? They already caught us hugging before." Guilt washed over her, remembering the last incident.

Lucian's arm was numb, resting on the couch. His brows furrowed as he asked in a hoarse voice, "Are you saying we could have continued if they weren't around?"

Roxanne started to help him ease the discomfort in his arm, but his question made her retract her hand. His eyes blazed.

"I'm tired, and I want to go to bed," she said, averting his gaze and rising anxiously. Moving away, she urged, "It's getting late. You should go home too."

As Lucian moved his arm, Roxanne instinctively took another step back, fearing he might force himself on her. He felt helpless, seeing her wariness. We used to be a married couple, with children. We've both expressed our feelings, yet she hasn't accepted me. Since our reunion, she's avoided me, except when she was drunk.

He didn't want to force her, suppressing his urges. "I'm not going to do anything to you," he explained in a low voice. "If you're tired, go upstairs. I'll stay a while longer before I leave."

Roxanne remained uneasy. "It's late. Are you sureโ€”"

Lucian waved his numb arm. "Don't worry. I won't take advantage of you. My arm is still numb; I can't drive."

She realized she'd squeezed his arm too hard in her panic. Feeling guilty, she offered a small, apologetic smile, but remained hesitant to approach him. "I'll go up then. Let me know when you're leaving."

She fled without looking back. Lucian watched her go, clenching his fists. He could still feel the warmth of her skin on his palms. I wonder when she'll ever let her guard downโ€ฆ
